SUN Looking to Shine on Telecommunications

SANTA CLARA, Calif. November 13, 2007 Sun Microsystems, Inc. (NASDAQ: JAVA) today introduced the Sun Netra multi-core and multithreaded 10G ATCA portfolio, a new product suite that includes the Sun Netra CP3260 ATCA blade server, powered by UltraSPARC T2 processors; the Sun Netra CP3220 ATCA blade server, powered by AMD Opteron processors; and the Sun Netra CP3240 10 GbE ATCA switch. The new ATCA portfolio, powered by the Solaris 10 Operating System (OS), gives telecommunications customers the ability to connect high-performance multi-core/multithreaded processors directly into flexible 10G networks, providing the foundation for cost-effective next-generation networks.

In addition, the Sun Unified Network Platform (SUN-P), a new OEM solution set delivered by Sun, gives Network Equipment Providers (NEPs) a blueprint for radical consolidation of their network elements, which significantly lowers the cost of deployment.
