Is there a VoIP war? Due to Microsoft Unified Communications?

Larry Hopper at CMP Chennel thinks so. Yes Microsoft is a big mover. But it is also a very slow mover. I remember H.323 communication embedded in their Network gateway server product, ISA Server, I am talking pre Internet messenger. This was years ago and you can find here how to configure ISA server with H.323 protocol!. I think they did not believe that VoIP in communications, because just a few open source IP Telephony organizations were working on VoIP, like Openh323, Open Gatekeeper etc.
Had Microsoft shown better attendance to it at that time, every exchange server will be having a VoIP connection by now.
It also depends on how Microsoft carries on with promoting and marketing it's unified Communications product/s. If they team up with a few key players, like Cisco and Nortel, it will not be a war, but a world domination!
Larry's article could be found here and let him know what you think!
