U.S. House to vote on net neutrality bill on Tuesday and White House says President will veto it if passed.

http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

The White House on Monday threatened to veto House Democrats’ Net Neutrality bill to reinstate net neutrality pre Trump FCC rules as the legislation heads toward a vote tomorrow.

The Office of Management and Budget (OMB) said on Monday that Trump administration “strongly opposes” the Save the Internet Act, It does have a vast citizen support. The reversal of Net neutrality by Trump Administration was a win for internet providers such as Comcast Corp, AT&T Inc and Verizon Communications Inc, but opposed by companies like Facebook Inc, Amazon.com Inc, Alphabet Inc. and a major share of general public

The new legislative effort by Democrats would put the Federal Communications Commission’s (FCC) 2015 rules back into effect. The Trump administration FCC voted to repeal the Obama-era rules at the end of 2017.

Those rules prohibited internet service providers from blocking, throttling or prioritizing web traffic. Republicans have long opposed the 2015 order because it opened up the broadband industry to greater oversight from the FCC.

The House could vote on the bill as early as Tuesday.

Google Neutral On Net Neutrality?

I am a fan of Google Fiber and I love Austin. So when Engadget wrote about Google Fiber in Austin, I was all over the article and there were enough info to keep you there for a few minutes.
But sadly I came away with only the following in my head.

"When I asked Smith about why Google had been silent on the issue of Net Neutrality for so long, considering its own budding ISP, I was cut off by his PR handler:"
May be after all Google wants to be an evil ISP. So much for fiber, at least I know where Comcast stands.

Update: I read on Washington Post that Google is for Free and Open internet! Phew!.

Getting Net Neutrality Right.

It Seems that from Senators to public figures are getting Net Neutrality wrong and AT&T, Comcast and Verizon are / have spent hundreds of millions of dollars to stop it. President Obama has asked FCC to “to make sure that consumers and not the cable companies get to decide what sites they use.”
But is takes much more than that to stop telecommunication companies from carving out fast lanes for their preferred.
Please join me at FreePress, to get / deliver the truth about Net Neutrality.

Silent Supporters Of Net Neutrality, Ford, UPS, Visa, and Bank of America!

The Ad Hoc Telecommunications Users Committee.

While companies like Ford, Visa, UPS and Bank of America, supported strongly, meaning, asking FCC to classify Internet as a Public Utility, which it is. But communication behemoths like AT&T, Comcast, and Verizon, does not want that. They want total control of the internet, your phone and beyond. So they are fighting Net neutrality like it is the D-Day.
While wanting net neutrality to be open, the companies behind the Ad Hoc Telecommunications Users Committee, Ford, Visa, UPS and B of A, are less vocal about their support, in some cases denying the extend of support, according to Bloomberg.
We just hope that FCC reclassify Internet as a public utility, because it a one. you cannot conduct a normal life without it, just like, electricity and water. The classification will bring more than just free data flow.
This is how the Ad Hoc committee suggested their thought on the matter;

“Every retailer with an online catalogue, every manufacturer with online product specifications, every insurance company with online claims processing, every bank offering online account management, every company with a website–every business in America interacting with its customers online is dependent upon an open Internet.”
So when will the real business' stand up for the cause?
Page 6 of the documents provided by the Ad Hoc Committe; emphasis is mine

The Ad Hoc Telecommunications Users Committee Ad Hoc’s Comments in the Open Internet Rulemaking

Internet access is a Title II service

It’s a question of fact, not policy

The FCC should use forbearance to de-regulate as needed

“Terminating access” is a classic market failure

Competition can discipline an ISP’s prices and practices for its own subscribers

But there is no competitive choice when content providers communicate with the ISP’s subscriber

The FCC has repeatedly called this structure a “market failure”

Bill-and-keep is the FCC’s solution

Comcast Is Not Telling The Truth, Level 3!

#Comcast Is Not Telling The Truth, #Level3 #comcastvoices  http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Level 3 is insisting that Comcast is set to cash in on the Level 3'd Netflix CDN responsibilities and not a exchange peering dispute. Well we all know that Comcast is not a real friend of Net neutrality but just riding along..

"the crux of the dispute was that Comcast now wants to charge for access at the local network level. "If I were handing off traffic to Comcast in New York and expecting them to deliver it in San Diego, I would expect to pay for that, But that's not what we're doing. We spent billions of dollars to get into this business and expect to use that infrastructure in an efficient way." Level 3 COO Jeff Storey said at the UBS Global Media & Communications conference this morning..

At the same time Comcast continue to play the peering dispute song.
"We can certainly understand Level 3's motivations. That company seems to have cut a very bad business deal to distribute content. Level 3 is apparently (and understandably) desperate about having committed to carry large volumes of traffic at unrealistic rates that bear no relationship to the market, or to the costs any of its competitors bear. So it comes as no surprise that Level 3 is reduced to making self-serving arguments. Or that it is being blatantly opportunistic in trying to tie its bad deal to the discussion of an "open Internet."" on their blog comcastvoices.
and that does not sound like a peering issue, You can read more and find links at DSLReports

Comcast Resolves Net Neutrality, Is It Time To Xfinity?

#Comcast Resolves #NetNeutrality, Is It Time To Xfinity? http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
After FCC and the likes of Florida Attorney General began asking questions about traffic throttling and forging torrent packets, looks like Comcast is cleaning up the act and making ways for net neutrality.
Good timing as I am planing to leave AT&T broadband services after something like 16 years (If you count ISDN as broadband :). The only reason I stayed with AT&T because of the IP block I received, and most of my DNS runs from those IP address'. But now I am changing and I can save a lot of moola by going with Comcast Xfinity triple play!.
But one should not forget about net neutrality nor ignore as the issue is very much alive and brush up your knowledge on it. Two posts that collect a lot of information such as Comcast's lies about traffic throttling, packet manipulating, FCC and Florida Attorney General, found at DSLReports and Ars Technica.
Also do not forget to read Comcast's own blog post about the matter.
Hope Comcast has Business service for self employed.

T-Mobile Can't Handle IM Apps? A Tale By T-Mobile Director Grant Castle!

#T-Mobile Can't  Handle IM Apps?  http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
It Looks like T-Mobile does not like Net neutrality and why? because an IM app brought down their network, almost, in somewhere, in some town!
But thanks to savvy engineers, they were able to reach out to the developer and change the code, get people to update the app, and avert the collapse of T-Mobile! Wow. That is another company I am not going back to! You scared me off, Grant.

Open Internet (Net Neutrality) Vote Today! Vint Cerf Speaks On The Subject

I am for Open Internet and I like what Vint had to say in an interview with the Washington post and dislike what the likes of Verizon CEO opening his dumb pipe. You can read Vint's interview by Cecilia Kang here.
Do not forget to visit Savetheinternet.com
Vint Cerf on the importance of keeping the Internet open

Verizon CEO Opens His Dumb Pipe! On Net Neutrality

On Net Neutrality snapvoip.blogspot.com/
"Proponents (of Net neutrality) have a worldview that network providers and application providers, like Google, occupy different parts of the Internet: dumb pipes versus smart apps, This is a mistake pure and simple. It's an analog idea for a digital world. It completely understates the need for sound practices and ignores the benefits of smart networks."
What made me laugh and wonder what / who was dumber the pipe or?, was the following statement;

He said that companies like Verizon need to be able to prioritize packets that are transmitting medical monitoring data--over such items like e-mail or spam--to make sure they get through the network quickly. But if rules are in place that prohibit carriers from prioritizing traffic, he said, then such medical services cannot be offered.
There are better ways to put the idea forward but this is not one of them.
"It's really ironic that the digital elites in Silicon Valley are also pushing for faster broadband and more wireless networks," he said. "The two don't add up."
Perhaps back to school might teach you how to add. You already charge consumers for the pipe, more than you should, Mr.. Looks like you are an analog protrusion in a digital world.
You can read more about his ideas here on cnet.

Cisco Systems, Alcatel-Lucent, Corning, Ericsson, Motorola and Nokia Opposes Net Neutrality Rules.

Net Neutrality snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Cisco Systems, Alcatel-Lucent, Corning, Ericsson, Motorola and Nokia and 38 others have send their concerns to the FCC saying new regulations could hinder the development of the Internet or more like their switch sales! They were also supported directly or indirectly by a group of 18 Republican US senators who also sent a letter to Genachowski siting their concerns regarding forth coming net neutrality regulations.
FCC Chairman Julius Genachowski is seeking to develop formal rules prohibiting Internet service providers from selectively blocking or slowing Web content and applications. The commission is scheduled to vote on October 22, a notice of proposed rules for net neutrality rules, which will eventually lead to rules and regulations.

"Until now, the innovators who are building the Internet and creating the advancements in telemedicine, education and the vast array of other online products and services have done so in an environment driven by competition and innovation, We believe government's role in the Internet should be to support investment, jobs and new technologies, especially if they increase the opportunity for all Americans to connect online."
Humbug I would say

Google Caught In Net Neutrality Dreaming Of Wall Street Journal

http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
This is as interesting as it is absurd. Wall Street Journal have drummed up a story based on Google seeking Edge Server Catching on service providers. Mix that with politics and Larry Lessig and the WSJ has a drama to drum up traffic and controversy.
Larry Lessig himself released"The made-up dramas of the Wall Street Journal", his ideas about the article, and you should read it before getting gang ho on Larry Lessig. He always stayed with his views, as far as I know.
"This is precisely the position that the Journal breathlessly attributes to me today. It represents no change -- no "softening" no "shift" in my views.

Now no doubt my position might be wrong. Some friends in the network neutrality movement as well as some scholars believe it is wrong -- that it doesn't go far enough. But the suggestion that the position is "recent" is baseless. If I'm wrong, I've always been wrong."

Google also laid out the facts in the following blog post, please read. There you will find more links to other valuable articles.

AT&T's Proposed Net Police and The VoIP IP Telephony

Here is the video that brought up the issue of AT&T trying to be the net police that might hurt VoIP IP Telephony and Unified Communications due to inherent fact that it will slow down the network, disregarding the other issues that this brings out such as net neutrality. I am on an AT&T network because I have been happy with my services since I joined them in the days of Pacbell, about 20 years ago, and at least 12 years of broadband services.
I think the VoIP News has a very good article on this same issue so I will guide you over there. Here is the infamous movie made by Richard Blakeley, and Joel Johnson of Boing Boing doing the interview.

Now you seen the movie, here is the story at VoIP News.

SaveTheInternet Goes Against Comcast to maintain Net Neutrality

On Thursday, the SavetheInternet.com Coalition joined legal scholars to take this case to the Federal Communications Commission (FCC). They filed an official action urging the agency to stop the cable giant from meddling with your ability to connect and share information.
Blocking by Comcast — and related censorship by AT&T and Verizon — gives us a glimpse of a world without Net Neutrality. We've filed a legal action against Comcast at the FCC.
In the “most drastic example yet of data discrimination,” the Associated Press exposed that Comcast was actively interfering with its users’ ability to access popular and legal video, photo and music sharing applications.
According to Savetheinternet, Despite mounting evidence that Comcast is crippling peer-to-peer communication, the company’s spokespeople have thumbed their noses at the public and the press — refusing to admit that the blocking of connections is underhanded or in any way threatens the free flow of information that’s become the hallmark of an open Internet.

So your Skype calls or Vonage or your plain old SIP calls might get blocked by these folks next if you do not act now. Visit the SavetheInternet.com Coalition (Internet scholars from Yale, Harvard, and Stanford also joined this protest), and promote net neutrality.
