Internationalized Domain Names Approved By ICAAN

Internationalized Domain Names Approved By ICAAN http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Paving the way for International communities to surf the web or net in their native languages, ICAAN approved a Fast-Track Process for applying for an IDN (Internationalized Domain Name) and will begin accepting applications on Nov. 16.
The current system only allow Latin alphabet letters A-Z, the digits 0-9 and the hyphen in the domain names but the new procedure will allows non roman alphabets to reach a website by typing the name in their own language. The system is going to prove difficult as the DNS servers need to support the new language modification.
ICANN has set restrictions on selecting a language for IDNs: official language of a country or territory, or  at minimum "serve as a language of administration."
It is also going to cost $26000 per language as a evaluation processing fee and a maintenace cost of 3% of domain registration fee of which both could be waived after proper request.
