Ericsson Sails Clear Into ClearWire Management!

Ericsson will manage Clearwire for next seven years. http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Clearwire just announced that they are handing over day to day management tasks of the ClearWire into the hands of Ericsson, a managed service company. With the management handover, approximately 700 Clearwire employees are expected to begin performing their network functions as Ericsson employees in locations around the United States.
Ericsson already manages the Sprint Network and perhaps this unified management, eventually make Sprint Clearwire unification easier.
Following is the statement by ClearWire;

We just announced today that Ericsson, the industry leader in managed services, will manage the day-to-day operations of the Clearwire 4G network. The seven-year, managed services partnership will allow Ericsson to implement their proven global best practices in network management while allowing Clearwire to focus on increasing operational efficiencies and reducing operating costs.
So what does this mean for the folks that built the nation’s first 4G network? We’re happy to report that approximately 700 Clearwire employees are expected to begin performing their network functions as Ericsson employees in locations around the United States before the middle of this year. This also means that network performance isn’t going to suffer because the work we’re seamlessly transitioning to Ericsson will still be performed by the same skilled and talented network employees who perform the work today.
What about our customers, you say? As we just mentioned network performance won’t be an issue so they’ll still have the same great 4G experience. But also, customers will see no change in their interactions with Clearwire because we will remain the priority point of contact. (The same is true for our wholesale partners and vendors.)
As for the significance of this anouncement? We want to direct your attention to a third-party perspective that we found to be quite profound.
“This managed services partnership is the next logical step for both Clearwire and Ericsson, one that will have significant near -term and long-term benefits for Clearwire’s employees, customers, retail distributors and investors,” observed Berge Ayvazian, Senior Consultant with Heavy Reading. “It also represents Ericsson’s second managed services contract in the U.S., building on the Network Advantage agreement that has already delivered major operational and economic benefits for Sprint.”
In short, while we have entered into an agreement with a company whose core competency is network excellence, Clearwire will continue to own our 4G network and remain responsible for network design, network strategy, vendor selection and long-term investment decisions. Our network is still ours – Ericsson is just managing it – allowing us to streamline the business and deliver a high-quality mobile broadband experience to our customers.

Clearwire Reports Solid Q4 And Total 2010 Growth.

http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

  • 4G Network Now Reaches 119 Million People, Up 250% From Beginning of 2010
  • Total Ending Subscribers of 4.4 Million, Up 540% From 688,000 Year Over Year
  • Full Year Revenue $557 Million, 4Q Revenue $181 Million, Up 126% Year Over Year
  • Consolidated 4Q Churn 2.1%, Improved From 3.6% Year Over Year
  • 2011 Outlook to Double Subscriber Base
  • Company Reiterates Support for Retail Distribution Model
KIRKLAND, Wash., Feb. 17, 2011 (GLOBE NEWSWIRE) -- Clearwire (Nasdaq:CLWR), a leading provider of 4G wireless broadband services in the U.S., today reported its financial and operating results for the fourth quarter and full year 2010.
"In 2010, we achieved our aggressive network expansion goals, grew our subscriber base at an incredible rate and solidified our position as a leader in the 4G industry in both network reach and customer growth," said Bill Morrow, Clearwire's CEO. "The Clearwire 4G mobile broadband network now reaches 119 million people in the U.S. and covers 71 of the top U.S. markets. Our network expansion represents one of the fastest in history, and unlike some wireless operators, our 4G network is highly scalable and backed by a wealth of spectrum. With recent projections estimating global mobile data traffic will nearly double annually through 2015, we believe more than ever that a deep spectrum position will be a requirement for long-term success in the high tonnage, video-enabled 4G world."
"Clearwire is also one of the fastest growing companies in the wireless industry. With fourth quarter subscriber additions in excess of 1.5 million, we now serve over 4.4 million customers and expect continued strong subscriber growth to more than double our total subscriber base in 2011. Despite this strong growth, our current plans and funding dictate that we remain prudent with our spending. This year, we plan to focus on improving the operating performance of our business by aggressively growing our wholesale business and reducing expenses. We remain very committed to our retail distribution model as well, and plan to prudently pace our retail growth in an effort to maximize our financial resources. We currently believe that the actions we are taking will allow our existing business to achieve positive EBITDA during 2012 and potentially become cash flow positive thereafter without the need for additional funding. Significant network expansion in the near term, however, remains contingent upon additional funding."
Clearwire ended the fourth quarter 2010 with approximately 4.4 million total subscribers, consisting of 1.1 million retail subscribers and 3.3 million wholesale subscribers. During the fourth quarter 2010, Clearwire added 1.5 million total net new subscribers, including 126,000 retail additions and 1.42 million wholesale additions. Approximately 27% of our wholesale subscribers are users of multi-mode 3G/4G devices residing in areas where the Company has not yet launched 4G service, but from whom it currently expects to receive nominal revenue.
Revenue for the fourth quarter was $180.7 million, a 126% increase over fourth quarter 2009 revenue of $79.9 million. Consolidated average revenue per user (ARPU) was $16.07, composed of a record retail ARPU of $45.10 and wholesale ARPU of $3.52 in the fourth quarter. Reported wholesale ARPU was determined based only on the $26.2 million of wholesale revenue the Company recognized in the fourth quarter due to the Company's previously disclosed pricing disputes with Sprint. Over the past few weeks, Clearwire and Sprint have held a number of productive discussions about the outstanding wholesale pricing issues. While nothing has yet been finalized, the Company believes that an agreement with Sprint resolving those issues is imminent. Consolidated cost per gross subscriber addition (CPGA) was $60 in the fourth quarter, comprised of $422 CPGA from the retail business and no CPGA in the wholesale business. Consolidated monthly subscriber churn was 2.1% in the fourth quarter, consisting of 3.8% in the retail business and 1.4% in the wholesale business. Under the proposed terms, the Company expects to receive substantial additional wholesale revenue.
The fourth quarter 2010 net loss attributable to Clearwire was ($128.0) million, or ($0.53) per basic share. The fourth quarter 2010 adjusted earnings before interest, taxes, depreciation and amortization and non-cash expenses related to operating leases and stock-based compensation expense (adjusted EBITDA) loss was ($497.4) million. The fourth quarter 2009 net loss attributable to Clearwire was ($98.7) million, or ($0.55) per basic share. The fourth quarter 2009 adjusted EBITDA loss was ($295.7) million. The full year 2010 net loss attributable to Clearwire was ($487.4) million, or ($2.19) per basic share.
At the end of 2010, Clearwire operated networks covering areas where approximately 117 million people reside globally, including approximately 112 million people in 4G markets in the U.S. We ended 2010 with nearly 14,500 4G cell sites on air utilizing in excess of 50,000 10 MHz carriers. As of mid-February 2011, Clearwire's 4G networks in the U.S. reached 119 million people.
Clearwire continues to seek additional funding to continue its network development by looking at a number of funding and other strategic alternatives, including potential strategic transactions, additional debt or equity financings and/or asset sales. In the second half of 2010, Clearwire initiated a process to seek bids for the potential sale of certain excess spectrum. During the process, the Company received offers to purchase varying amounts of spectrum from multiple parties, some of whom also expressed interest in exploring other strategic transactions with the Company. Currently, Clearwire is evaluating the offers received for its spectrum and is holding discussions with the interested parties. As a result, Clearwire has not yet made a determination as to whether to proceed with any sale and the Company now expects to delay a conclusion until second quarter 2011.
2011 Outlook
Clearwire expects to end 2011 with more than 8.8 million subscribers, with most of those subscribers coming from its wholesale business. Consolidated CPGA is estimated to fall to below $50 in 2011. The Company also expects to receive significantly higher wholesale ARPU in 2011. Without additional funding, the Company currently expects to cover approximately 130 million people with its 4G networks by the end of 2011, with new coverage focused primarily on rural areas where a build-out is required to protect its spectrum. Capital expenditures in 2011 are estimated to be less than $400 million.
Under its current plans, the Company now expects to reach positive EBITDA during 2012. However, this is based on a number of assumptions, including final resolution of the wholesale pricing disputes with Sprint and achieving the expected expense reductions.
Results of Operations
Cost of goods and services and network costs for the fourth quarter 2010 increased 63% to $275.6 million compared to $169.5 million for the fourth quarter 2009, primarily due to an increase in tower lease and backhaul expenses resulting from the launches of new 4G markets. During the three months ended December 31, 2010, the Company incurred approximately $55.2 million of expense related to excess and obsolete CPE, and write-offs of network base station equipment.
Selling, General and Administrative (SG&A) expense for the fourth quarter 2010 increased 19% to $233.2 million compared to $196.3 million for the fourth quarter 2009. The increase is primarily due to higher sales and marketing and customer care expenses in support of the launch of new markets, as well as additional resources, headcount and shared services that Clearwire utilized as it launched its 4G markets during the fourth quarter of 2010.
Loss from abandonment and impairment of network and other assets for the fourth quarter consists of approximately $168.8 million in write-offs related to abandonment of projects that no longer fit within management's strategic network plans. The abandoned projects were originally undertaken in connection with our network build-out that were not incorporated into our networks at launch and no longer fit within our future build plans.
Deceleration of network build activities led to a decrease in Capital Expenditures (CapEx) to $590 million in the fourth quarter 2010 from CapEx of $763 million for the third quarter 2010. CapEx was $2.7 billion for 2010. Cash utilization was approximately $2.1 billion for 2010 including net proceeds from financing activities of approximately $1.7 billion, primarily generated from the proceeds from the Senior Secured Notes, the Second-Priority Secured Notes and the Exchangeable Notes offerings completed in December 2010, as well as the Rights Offering completed in June 2010, and the final closing of the 2009 equity financing in the first quarter of 2010. The Company ended the fourth quarter 2010 with cash and investments of approximately $1.8 billion invested primarily in U.S. Treasury securities.

Press Release;

KIRKLAND, Wash., Aug 30, 2010 (BUSINESS WIRE) --

Clearwire Corporation (NASDAQ:CLWR) today unveiled Rover(TM): the nation's first pay-as-you-go 4G mobile broadband service for tech-savvy Gen Y customers. The Rover brand is designed for digitally addicted youth who refuse to settle for long-term contracts, overpriced internet service, or speeds slower than what they've become accustomed to at home.

Rover is available in all of Clearwire's 49 4G markets across the U.S. at rover.com. Rover is also available at CLEAR stores, Best Buy stores and select independent wireless dealers in Houston and St. Louis.

"Simple, commitment-free wireless services are wildly popular with the Gen Y crowd, and Rover provides them with the first pay-as-you-go unlimited mobile internet offering at 4G speeds," said Mike Sievert, chief commercial officer for Clearwire. "We've built Rover from the ground up with products, pricing and features designed specifically to serve a younger market who knows how you get connected is just as important as where. Expanding our offers to meet this underserved segment is an important new business opportunity for Clearwire as we continue to extend our leadership in mobile broadband."

"The opportunity for pay-as-you-go mobile broadband should not be underestimated," said Carrie MacGillvray, program manager and wireless analyst at IDC. A prepaid mobile broadband service can offer consumers the ability to access and share Internet service, at home or on the go, in an affordable way."

If you want to know the answers to following questions, they are available to download as a report from sidecut reports.

– Why the Atlanta and Las Vegas market launches, and follow-on Clearwire launches in smaller cities, have helped Clearwire move from a will-they-ever-arrive to a serious competitor in U.S. broadband markets;
– Why Comcast’s decision to start reselling Clearwire services may have helped Clearwire’s stock price more than double from March to August;

Global WiMAX Roaming With ClearWire!

Global WiMAX Roaming
Clearwire has signed a MOU, memorandum of understanding with WiMAX operators UQ Communications of Japan (UQ) and Yota of Russia to provide roaming between services for users of either service. Cleauqyota will be the rulers of WiMAX skies, at least for now.
But this initiative will provide opportunity for others to think about providing regular wireless services roaming that does not cost $62000 for data roaming and careers make Mafia look like saints.

The press release by Clearwire;

KIRKLAND, Wash.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Sep. 14, 2009-- Clearwire Communications, LLC, an operating subsidiary of Clearwire Corporation (NASDAQ:CLWR), announced that it has signed a memorandum of understanding (MOU) with WiMAX operators UQ Communications of Japan (UQ) and Yota of Russia that identifies the objectives and activities each operator will perform towards the realization of establishing WiMAX roaming between the operators.
Under the MOU, Clearwire, UQ, and Yota plan to collaborate on business and technical aspects of their respective operations to define and institute the process necessary to support international roaming and to ensure the operators’ systems and devices are able to support roaming. Additionally, the operators will work with Clearwire’s Global Alliance Partner Program members and other WiMAX operators to ensure that seamless roaming occurs in an increasing number of countries. Furthermore, the collaboration will leverage WiMAX Forum roaming guidelines, specifications and templates where necessary to help meet business objectives.
“Today’s announcement confirms mobile WiMAX technology’s maturity and robustness and reaffirms that it is the only commercially available 4G standard worldwide with an available ecosystem of infrastructure and devices," said Barry West, president of Clearwire International. "With over 500 WiMAX deployments underway in about 145 countries, the existence of a roaming framework – helping to connect operators as well as WiMAX customers – is vital to advanced cross-market cooperation."
“The mobile WiMAX position in the telecom market is currently so strong, that operators are taking action to organize a civilized roaming environment,” says Dennis Sverdlov, CEO of Yota. “The trilateral MOU, signed by the leading global WiMAX operators, is evidence of that. We are committed to making telecom services easy to use for our clients, and this MOU was signed with their interests in mind.”
"WiMAX is a worldwide technology standard available in many countries, which is already giving birth to a variety of new services and end user devices," remarked Takashi Tanaka, president of UQ Communications Inc. "As a global standard, international roaming is a natural service evolution, and we, as WiMAX operators, have to work closely together to make roaming services available as quickly as possible."
Clearwire, UQ, and Yota currently offer WiMAX services in their respective domestic markets. Through mutual collaboration, the companies will provide their customers the first international WiMAX roaming capability and help 4G services to follow the same global pattern towards international accessibility as other wireless technology.
In addition to today’s announcement, Clearwire will continue to work closely with its Global Alliance Partners YTL Communications of Malaysia, wi-tribe of Pakistan, Vee Telecom of Taiwan, and Global Mobile of Taiwan to ensure successful roaming once the partner networks are commercially deployed.

ClearWire WiMAX Drivers For MAC, Coming In August., Linux A Little Later!

ClearWire WiMAX Drivers For MAC

Clearwire plans to release a client software for Apple Macintosh laptops to Clearwire WiMax service. They will also introduce Clear 4G+ mobile USB, dual-mode USB modem for WiMax and Sprint Nextel's 3G network.

The WiMax carrier currently offers tabletop, wireless and USB modems to connect to it's network. Clear has only provided Windows drivers for it's USB Modems, so Mac users have not been able to use the Clear service on the run. They only capable of connecting Wi-Fi through the US$139.99 Clear Spot. On Aug. 17, Clearwire will begin offering a Mac driver as a free download for customers, according to Mike Sievert, chief commercial officer.

Clearwire does not have drivers for Linux platform for its modems at the moment but in the future the company plans to offer open-source code for outside developers to write their own drivers, according to CTO John Saw.

If we all can get connection speeds like in this Clearwire WiMAX speed test, I will be a very happy surfer. Clearwire Cell Towers are for you to locate.

Clearwire Showcases Mobile WiMAX Capabilities and Devices during Consumer Launch Event Today at Town Square Mall Dual-Mode 4G/3G Modem to Provide Nationwide Service Beginning August 1 Company continues progress on plans to bring CLEAR to 80 markets by end of 2010
LAS VEGAS, Jul 21, 2009 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- The Las Vegas region officially hit the jackpot today as Clearwire Communications, LLC, an operating subsidiary of Clearwire Corporation, (NASDAQ:CLWR), rolled out CLEAR's super-fast mobile internet service to serve approximately 1.7 million residents across 638 square miles. Now, consumers and businesses can access the internet wirelessly, at true broadband speeds â"EUR at home, in the office, and on the go anywhere in the CLEAR coverage area.

"While it's true that what happens in Vegas stays in Vegas, now, thanks to CLEAR, that doesn't mean it has to stay in one place," said Jeremy Abler, General Manager of Las Vegas market for Clearwire. "CLEAR will bring to Las Vegas residents the super-fast mobile internet experience they're used to having at home or the office, anywhere around town or on the go. We're providing a valuable, new category of internet service designed to make people's lives more enjoyable and more productive, wherever they happen to be in our coverage area."

In addition to the launch of Clear 4G service, the company also announced that, starting on August 1, it will offer the Clear 4G+ mobile USB, a dual-mode 4G/3G modem for customers who travel outside of CLEAR 4G coverage areas that uses Sprint's nationwide 3G network - the most dependable 3G network in the nation - creating a truly national footprint for the most mobile of customers.

Owners of Apple(R) Macintosh(R) laptops will be able to connect to the CLEAR network using a USB modem beginning August 17 with the introduction of the Clear Connection Manager software for Mac. The software is compatible with existing Clear USB 4G WiMAX-only modems and will be available for download from clear.com. Dual-mode Clear 4G+ mobile USB service is expected to be available for Macs in Q4 '09.

A CLEAR Difference

Unlike other wireless services, CLEAR delivers a mobile broadband internet experience on par with speeds typically experienced only on wired connections, like DSL. For example, some of today's 3G wireless networks typically deliver download speeds of between 1.0 and 1.7 Mbps. CLEAR customers, however, can expect to see download speeds of 3 to 6 mbps with bursts over 10 mbps.

The CLEAR customer experience is similar to that provided by Wi-Fi, but without the short range limitations of a traditional hot spot. CLEAR uses a 4G technology that differs from Wi-Fi called WiMAX, which provides service areas measured in miles, not feet. In Las Vegas, the CLEAR network utilizes an area-wide WiMAX radio system from Motorola.

As the internet integrates deeper into daily life, the opportunities to stay connected and be productive are enhanced by CLEAR in numerous ways, including by:

  • A local limousine or transportation service looking to provide in-vehicle internet service for their clients;
  • A busy parent who wants full internet connectivity for kids studying or playing games in the back of the family minivan;
  • A college student or retiree looking for one affordable internet service provider to meet their needs at home, on campus and on-the-go;
  • A mobile professional who is unsatisfied with the speeds and limitations of 3G modem cards or the need to seek out Wi-Fi hotspots;
  • A commuter interested in accessing entertainment sites like Hulu or Pandora on the way home.

For these and many other customers, CLEAR's simple and innovative pricing provides ultimate flexibility. CLEAR's mobile and residential plans can be purchased by the day or by the month, and with several no service contract options available. Home internet service plans start at $20 per month, while mobile internet plans start at $30 per month, or customers can purchase a convenient day pass for $10. Additional savings are available for customers by purchasing a combination of services that could include home-and-mobile or mobile-and-mobile internet plans starting at $45 for both, or by signing up for a two-year service agreement. The dual-mode 4G/3G plan is available for just $80 per month with a two-year service agreement. Customers can find full details about pricing options, business plans and purchase the service online at www.clear.com, or by visiting numerous retail locations throughout metro Las Vegas, including: Sunset Galleria Mall, Boulevard Mall, Meadows Mall, Charleston Rampart, and Eastern Russell (McCarran), as well as any of 6 Best Buys or 24 RadioShack stores; or other authorized CLEAR dealers.

Simply Plug-In and Go

CLEAR offers several simple choices for broadband connectivity.

  • Clear USB Modem and Clear 4G+ Mobile: Mobile users simply plug-in CLEAR's compact, mobile WiMAX-enabled USB modem into their laptop to get online. The USB modem, from Motorola, is available for only $59.99 or leased for just $4.99 per month. Customers can purchase the modem from a store or online. Customers who travel across the U.S. will be able to purchase the Clear 4G+ mobile USB, a dual-mode (4G/3G) modem, from CLEAR beginning August 1. The dual-mode capabilities give the truly mobile user access to nationwide 3G network service whenever the Clear 4G service is not available. The 4G+ mobile USB will retail for $79.99, after instant rebate.
  • Residential data & voice services: For residential service, CLEAR offers customers a wireless high-speed modem, about the size of a small book. Customers simply plug the modem into a power outlet anywhere in their home or office and connect the modem to their PC or wireless router. This enables consumers and businesses to install high-speed internet service without the need to schedule an appointment, drill holes in their walls, or otherwise disrupt their day. The Clear Modem, a residential modem from Motorola, can be purchased for $79.99 or leased for just $4.99 monthly. Residential customers can also add in-home voice service with purchase of the Clear Voice Adapter for $15, and receive unlimited local and long distance service for just $25 per month.
  • Clear Spot: With the Clear Spot, any existing, off-the-shelf Wi-Fi device (compatible with 802.11b/g) can connect to CLEAR's mobile WiMAX network. The Clear Spot creates a personal Wi-Fi hotspot that travels with consumers anywhere they happen to be within CLEAR's mobile WiMAX service area. This $139.99 device is a portable, battery-powered router that seamlessly connects up to eight standard Wi-Fi-enabled devices (computers, mobile phones, portable gaming, consoles, cameras, etc.) to the internet via a Clear USB modem to access CLEAR's mobile WiMAX network. The Clear Spot is compatible with both the Clear 4G and Clear 4G+ mobile USB dual-mode service options.
  • Intel Embedded WiMAX Laptops: Numerous CLEAR-compatible embedded WiMAX laptops based on Intel(R) Centrino(R) 2 processor technology are now available directly from their manufacturers and through other channels. From Dell, these include the Studio 17, Studio XPS 16, Latitude E4300, Latitude E6400, Latitude E6400 ATG, Latitude E6500, Precision M2400, and Precision M4400. • Samsung Mondi: Also launching in August is the Samsung Mondi, a mobile WiMAX-enabled handheld device that combines the abilities of a PC with the size and portability of a phone.
  • Coming Soon: Panasonic has announced plans to deliver this year a Toughbook(R) computer with embedded WiMAX based on Intel(R) Centrino(R) 2 processor technology, and compatible with the CLEAR network.

Comcast Clearwire Making WiMAX Waves In Oregon.

Comcast WiMAX in Oregon
Andy Abramson directed me to an article by Rethink-Wireless that shows Comcast had great plans when it partnered with Clearwire.
The combined service that includes WiMAX has been launched in Portland Oregon which continue to provide service to customers with combined fixed broadband, WiMAX (Comcast Speed 2Go) and Sprint EVDO plus WiMAX in areas where Clearwire is active.
The company will offer a metro plan and card that works within the WiMAX footprint area, and a nationwide plan and card that offers 3G everywhere, using the Sprint Clearwire.
While ago we reported the about the WiMAX Speed Test in the same area that reached 13Mbps from various positions that included a car moving at 60-70 MPH.
According to Rethink Wireless the pricing plans do seem attractive across all three companies, either combined or stand alone, depending on what you are looking for and where you want it!
"COMCAST is offering a 12-month introductory rate. For $50 a month, a subscriber gets 12Mbps home cable broadband and WiMAX, which is only a $7 premium over the cost of cable broadband alone (and includes a free Wi-Fi router). A national 3G add-on is an extra $20 a month and roaming to other Clearwire WiMAX markets is free. After the one-year trial the tariff goes up to $73 a month ($93 with 3G). There will be a $99 charge for a dongle (and other devices to follow in future), though people who commit to a two-year deal get the gadget for free.

Clearwire itself charges $20 a month for its in-home 'Clear' service, from $40 a month for mobile internet, and $50 a month for unlimited consumer roaming. It also has a creative range of pricing options, including sharing a connection between multiple devices, or taking up month-by-month contracts or short term passes (a day pass is $10, and customers can add an in-home voice option for $25). Sprint 4G is $80 a month with a two-year contract that includes 5Gb per month of 3G data and unlimited 4G bandwidth. All these plans enable consumers to get cutting edge mobile broadband capabilities - as use of dongles starts to take off, European-style, in the US - for a small premium."

Another good reason for me to shed AT&T DSL and go Comcast way if the service come to San Francisco Bay Area. Mind you, I have been a loyal customer of AT&T, for a long time. I Started my DSL service when PACBELL was still alive and kept it through SBC and now AT&T. Service continue to be the same, no improvements for what it looks like eons but the cost keep on rising.

I looking for better service for cheaper or the same price and Comcast has beeen very inviting.

WiMax Field Speed Test

http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Gizmodo has conducted a series of WIMax tests all over in Portland, Oregon. Motorola USBw25100 WiMax dongle and managed to reach 13Mbps down stream (Clearwire provided him with uncapped connection). Man I think I am going to be more giddy than him. I jump updaown when I get a 3G connection from AT&T. Dont forget to read my iPhone 3G Speed Test and the iPhone Speed tests covering GPRS,EDGE and WiFI.
Anyway here is the summery of the WiMax Speed Tests.

It's easy to reach download speeds that are four times the peak of today's best 3G networks

Power demand does not seem to be any greater than other wireless connections

Most available Clear services now are capped at 4Mbps, though uncapped plans may be available sometime this year

Only a handful of cities will have this service in 2009, with more to come in 2010

Wide fluctuations in bandwidth feel weird: 12Mbps upside makes 3Mbps feel like a disappointing trickle

Within Portland's city limits, there were plenty of dead zones that will hopefully be filled in soon

Maps Videos and lots more information at Gizmodo.
