With 6.4 Million users, Google Maps mobile is the most used mobile app in the UK according to a survey conducted by ComScore and GSMA, a mobile Industry institute, Guardian tells us.
People also used Yahoo Weather, which came in the second place with 3.6 Million users, nearly as half as Google Maps and 0.1 Million more than the Facebook App which had 3.5 million users.
The information comes from comScore and the GSMA's Mobile Media Metrics partnership and is being published in connection with IAB Engage for Mobile conference in London. Mobile Media Metrics has been busy since February 2010, providing mobile performance data to the UK's public and industries.
The difference between the top two apps and the others is that Google Maps (iPhone and Android) and Yahoo Weather (iPhone) are both preloaded apps. If you are wondering where is the Angry Birds, it is not there because it is not a connected app. Connected Apps are defined as apps that transmit data over the carriers network.

iPhone Passes Blackberry In Smarphone Marketshare, But Android Is Still Way Ahead Of Both Of Them

Comscore has released the latest report on US Smartphone Market share and Android (36.4%) is way ahead of second in line iPhone (26%). But iPhone has surpassed the Blackberry (25.7%) in terms of  active user base. I guess the rise of the Android is still strong.
As Platforms only Android and iOS gained in the last quarter, but 5.7% growth of Android base well exceeded that of iOS giving Google more than 10.4% lead over Apple. 

On the hardware front, Samsung LG and Motorola lead the bunch and fourth place Apple (8.3%) is way behind the third place Motorola (15.6%) and has a way to go. RIM is 0.1 percent behind Apple.

Of 234 million Americans ages 13 and older who used mobile devices, Comscore found, 74.6 million . owned smartphones, at the end of April,  up 13% from the three-month period ending in January 2011.

Looks like the Apple's iPhone ans RIM's Blackberry are losing to Android in number of subscribers and Ad impressions.
The Comscore published data showing that Android is leading and both RIM and Apple are falling behind. Android surged pass iPhone (iOS) previously in the number of subscribers but this is the first time Android took the helm from RIM,  The data from October 2010 to January 2011 indicated that 65.8 million people in the U.S. owned a smartphone, which itself up by 8% from the previous period.
As of January 2011, with 31.2% market share; RIM ranked second with 30.4% market share, with Apple following with 24.7% share. Microsoft had a 8% market share, with Palm taking 3.2% share.

As with number of smartphones increasing, so are the ad impressions. In this front too, Android is gliding past iOS in style. According to a report by Inmobi Android is way ahead with 37% of ad impressions verses Apple's iPhone only showing 23% of the share. According to Inmobi, Android surged ahead with 17% increase since last October and Apple actually dropped 1.3%. But keep in mind these figures are from Inmobi network only and does not include other ad networks or Apple's own iADs. Either way still Android is gaining on all fronts.

We've seen enough Android vs iPhone debates and knew all along that Android based phones are the hottest-selling smartphones in US and now we have legitimate data showing us so. According to ComScore's latest estimates, Android got in to the hand and pockets of 26% of all US smartphone subscribers in the quarter ending November 2010, passing the Apple's iPhone numbers for the first time, leaving it in the third slot. But both Apple and Android have bee eating  RIM's BlackBerry dominance away. The RIM's share dropped 4.1%,If the CES 2011 and all those Android Phones are of any indication, Pretty soon, Android will be heading the pack.
Of handset market, Samsung seem to be top manufacturer with 24.5% market share, while RIM lead the smartphone sector with 33.5% market share.

As of month ending November, 61.5 million people in the U.S. owned smartphones up 10% from the preceding three-month period. Of these users RIM led the market share with 33.5%. Google Android reached the #2 position in smartphone market share in November with 26.0% (15.99 million units) of U.S. smartphone subscribers overtaking Apple which accounted for 25.0. The Apple is not slowing down but Android is rising faster. Apple enjoyed 0.8% increase from the previous three months.

Microsoft will release its first full-featured Bing search client for Android in the next six weeks, matching the search capabilities that Microsoft offers for the Bing for iPhone in iOS 4, Microsoft announced today. Microsofts  Bing client for the iPhone has been downloaded more than 4 million times.Microsoft accounted for about 12.7 % of the searches on the web. With Google leading with 62.6 and Yahoo at 18.9%, according to ComScore.

Microsoft acknowledged the low posisition but promises to grow with the help of Bings Visual richness.
"None of us are confused: We're a very low-share player, We've barely got into double digits and it's a long road." said Satya Nadella, senior vice president for Microsoft's online services
