Oh! Instagram, Here Comes Flickr App From Yahoo!

Instagram vs Yahoo Flickr App http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

If you are one of those who like to share, photos, a lot of photos, of your breakfast coffee to dinner desert, you got another friend, I meant another app, which some say better than instagram, that you are using now.
Flickr as a web service is fantastic and everyone of us have at least a single photo on Flickr, sharing with someone or the whole world.
Yahoo is wrapping up all that goodness in a mobile app, Flickr for iPhone and doing a very good job of it. The app has been around but the new update brings bunch of good stuff like filters and effects that allows one to make their photos artsy or appear nothing like the original.
App also allows you to share these photos with your Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr accounts, opening up another avenue for you photos to search for 15 second fame.
But unlike the Instagram, this app is loaded with a very good set of tools, the kind that professional photographers would love. Perhaps they will be able to share what the photos looks like which they took with the professional cameras. Sort of a preview of great works yet to be uploaded in their multi megabit goodness'
Here is how Yahoo explains it on the Apple App Store page;

  • - Capture and create stunning photos: Take photos with the app’s easy-to-use camera and make them your own with all new filters, editing features, and geo-tagging.
  • - Share your photos with anyone, anywhere: Instantly share with your Flickr groups and Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or email contacts. You pick.
  • - Discover the world through photos: The most interesting images in the world live on Flickr. Rediscover the world and be inspired by the Flickr community of photo hobbyists.
  • - Experience high-quality, high-resolution photos: Flickr maintains the original quality of your photos so they look as crisp and stunning as the moment you snapped the photo.  Your photos always look better on Flickr!

Features:
✓ Custom filters enhance your photos plus photo correction, retouching and many other tools
✓ Access your Flickr photos on any device – phone, tablet, computer and Apple TV!
✓ Connect with others around shared interests. Whether it’s food, travel, or anything else – Flickr has more than 1.6M groups, so there’s bound to be a Group that interests you!
✓ New justified layout photo display makes your personal photostream look amazing
✓ See recent photo activities from your friends and family. Make comments or mark them as favorites.
✓ Flexible, personal privacy options to make your photos as public or private as you want

Yahoo Does Mobile App Search, Y! AppSpot

Mobile App Search, Y! AppSpot http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Not to be outdone all the app search startups, Yahoo has entered the game with App search apps for both Android and iPhone. The App is called AppSpot or Y! AppSpot.
There is a web / desktop version as well.
If you have the app installed, AppSpot gives you daily recommendations in six categories; music, games, news, social networking, travel, utilities with slot machine rolling interface. The web app does that too but it rolls horizontally.
I tried some searches on the web version and i seems to be doing what is expected to. I will try the iPhone or the Android version as I find time.
You can find the Apps and the web version at Yahoo.

Mobile Search, A New Battle Ground?

Mobile Search, A New Battle Ground? http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
If you are watching Worldcup 2010, you know some of the top teams are already gone and others are struggling. Complacency seem to affect many top players. Is the same phenomenon extending into Mobile Search? Techcrunch think iPhone Apps are changing the face of mobile search, but what about the millions of other phones? do they search via Bing? Google or perhaps Yahoo!
I think Google rules, in search and the search results!

Two New Mail Domains From Yahoo! YMail.com and Rocketmail.com

Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO) today announced the global availability of two new e-mail domains that will give users the chance to register for the e-mail address or Yahoo! ID they have always wanted. People can finally say goodbye to CutiePie4Ever80 or mattclark1977@yahoo.com and get a new Yahoo! e-mail address at

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Jun 19, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Yahoo! Inc. (Nasdaq:YHOO) today announced the global availability of two new e-mail domains that will give users the chance to register for the e-mail address or Yahoo! ID they have always wanted. People can finally say goodbye to CutiePie4Ever80 or mattclark1977@yahoo.com and get a new Yahoo! e-mail address at ymail.com and rocketmail.com.

Yahoo! Mail is the number one Web mail service in the world with more than 260 million users worldwide(1). As a result of its global popularity, many desirable e-mail addresses have already been taken for the yahoo.com domain, as well as for localized versions of the namespace in countries around the world. With the two new e-mail domain choices, Yahoo! will make millions of new e-mail addresses available to the online community.

Yahoo! recently commissioned a survey conducted by Harris Interactive(R) to determine what online adults look for when choosing an e-mail address and found some noteworthy results:

-- The majority of online adults (59 percent) consider the most important attribute of an e-mail address to be that it is easy to remember.

-- When asked if they could choose any e-mail address for personal use, seven in ten online adults (70 percent) would opt to have some portion of their name included - 31 percent would want their last name included, 27 percent would choose their first name, while 28 percent would prefer to have their nickname as part of their e-mail address.

-- Of online adults who indicated that they are not currently using their first choice e-mail address, over half (54 percent) agree that they want their e-mail address to reflect who they are, and about half (48 percent) would be at least somewhat likely to change addresses should their preferred choice become available.

"We recognize that people want an e-mail address that reflects who they are, whether they are signing up for an e-mail address for the first time, or simply updating their e-mail pseudonym to reflect the stage they are at in life," said John Kremer, vice president, Yahoo! Mail. "We are thrilled to be able to offer new Yahoo! e-mail domain choices to Internet users, along with the same great Web mail experience that hundreds of millions of people have already come to expect."

E-mail addresses at the new domains will have the same great Yahoo! Mail features as addresses at the yahoo.com domain, including:

-- Unlimited storage - Yahoo! Mail provides all users with free unlimited e-mail storage(2)

-- Integrated Instant Messaging and Text Messaging - Users can connect in real-time to their contacts with Yahoo! Messenger or Windows Live(R) Messenger and send text messages to friends on the go, right from their Yahoo! Mail inbox

-- Protection from spam and viruses - All of the same great protection that is built into Yahoo! Mail will apply to these new domains. Yahoo! uses advanced technologies and data from numerous sources to dramatically reduce the delivery of spam and phishing e-mails

-- Country-specific e-mail account - When signing up for an e-mail account, users have the option of choosing localized country versions from each of the Yahoo! domains: yahoo.com, ymail.com and rocketmail.com

As always, a Yahoo! ID will work for everything across the Yahoo! Network, from checking e-mail to checking out Messenger, Flickr, Groups, Sports, Finance and more.

In many markets, Yahoo! will also help users transfer their e-mail and contacts to their new address and notify friends of their new e-mail address.

In addition, Yahoo! has reserved a number of desirable e-mail addresses - all related to charitable organizations - using the new domains and will put these e-mail addresses up for charity auction beginning on Thursday, June 19, 2008. Yahoo! is working with auction partners eBay Giving Works and Auction Cause. The proceeds from the auction will benefit the following organizations: The Breast Cancer Research Foundation, Ocean Conservancy, Point Foundation, Right To Play and World Wildlife Fund. To participate in the online auction, please visit http://www.ebay.com/ymail.

Users can learn more about and register for a new e-mail at ymail.com and rocketmail.com at http://mail.yahoo.com.

Zimbra Collaboration Suite Expanded And Offers Optimized iPhone Support

Zimbra Collaboration Suite is expanded and now provides better Safari 3 Integration, CalDAV Support for iCal on Mac OS X Leopard, and most importantly optimized iPhone Support. I have used Zimbra even before it was a part of Yahoo. I will be happy to test out new features on the iPhone and iPod Touch once I get the new update loaded!
SAN MATEO, Calif., Jan 15, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Zimbra, a Yahoo! (Nasdaq:YHOO) company, and the leader in open source, next-generation messaging and collaboration software, today announced that it has expanded its support for Apple products and technologies, including Safari 3 and CalDAV for Mac OS X Leopard.

"The amazing speed of Safari 3 has blown the Zimbra team away and we are excited to be the first major collaboration platform to support the calendaring standard CalDAV," said Satish Dharmaraj, CEO and co-founder of Zimbra. "We also wanted to expand our support for the iPhone by adding an optimized mobile web experience on top of our iSync support."

"Leopard is packed with more than 300 new features, including major enhancements to Safari and iCal," said Ron Okamoto, Apple's vice president of Worldwide Developer Relations. "We're pleased that Zimbra users can take advantage of the world's fastest browser with Safari and improved iCal group calendaring with CalDAV in Leopard."

The Zimbra Collaboration Suite (ZCS) fully supports Safari 3, which is the fastest Web browser on any platform and is available for Tiger and Leopard users and is in beta on Windows. ZCS's rich AJAX interface, including email, calendaring, Zimbra Documents, and customizable mash-ups called Zimlets, takes full advantage of Safari's optimized AJAX browsing experience.

To meet the advanced calendaring needs of Mac users, Zimbra now supports CalDAV, a key feature for customers using Leopard's iCal 3 as their calendaring client. Based on a public standard, CalDAV allows users to synchronize and browse free/busy time and recurring appointments easily, both with personal and public calendars.

Additionally, ZCS is now available to iPhone users via the Zimbra Mobile HTML client. The iPhone's Safari browser enables fast access to the full-featured AJAX interface, and the Zimbra Connector for Apple iSync allows users to sync not only their email but also their address books and calendars to their iPhones.

These enhancements reflect Zimbra's ongoing commitment to the Mac community, and to providing innovative features for the Mac platform. Zimbra has long supported iSync, which provides a two-way sync between Apple Mail, Address Book, iCal, Microsoft Entourage, and the ZCS server. To test these new capabilities including support for Safari, CalDAV and iPhone, visit www.zimbra.com and register for a Hosted Demo Account.
