According to a FCC document, Google is seeking permission to update their phones to be LTE 48 capable. There are no hardware changes but a software update would enable Citizens Broadband Radio Services (CBRS) Or LTE 48 on Google phones such as Pixel 3.
As far as the carriers are concerned, Verizon is already using band 48 (CBRS) in Boca Raton, Florida, and largely quiet about other markets. But the availability of the service channel would let us see more devices with support.
So what is CBRS or LTE band 48? This communication channel/band is also known as Citizens Broadband Radio Services (CBRS), which was previously in use for government radar. Now the FCC like to commercialize the frequency for use by networks like Verizon, AT&T, Sprint or any other carrier. With this band in use, there are more ways to add connectivity to a phone in a place where signal issues could be present other bands.
