Verizon Wireless 4G LTE http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Verizon Wireless is bringing their 4G LTE wireless network to nine additional metropolitan areas today, as well as expanding the 4G LTE network in Atlanta, Chicago, Denver, New Orleans and Philadelphia. The wireless leader announced today the 4G LTE network is now available in Mobile and Montgomery Ala.; Greater Fairfield and New Haven, Conn.; Gainesville, Pensacola and Tallahassee, Fla.; Fayetteville-Lumberton, N.C.; and Bryan-College Station and Temple-Killeen, Texas.
“We’re now offering consumers and businesses in 55 metropolitan areas the most advanced 4G wireless network on the planet, while continuing to offer the nation’s most reliable 3G network coast to coast. We plan to bring 4G LTE mobile broadband to our entire 3G coverage area by the end of 2013.” said David Small, chief technical officer for Verizon Wireless.
With the faster network coming up, users have several devices to access the blazingly fast speeds of the 4G LTE network. These include the newly-launched DROID Charge by Samsung and ThunderBolt™ by HTC smartphones, MiFi® 4510L 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot and Samsung 4G LTE Mobile Hotspot. Laptop users can enjoy speeds up to 10 times faster than the company’s 3G network with three USB modems from Novatel, Pantech and LG. In real-world, fully-loaded network environments, 4G LTE users should experience average data rates of 5 to 12 megabits per second (Mbps) on the downlink and 2 to 5 Mbps on the uplink.
When customers travel outside of a 4G coverage area, the devices automatically connect to Verizon Wireless’ 3G network, enabling customers to stay connected from coast to coast.

Verizon's Unlimited Data Plan Has A Throttle! At Least For Top 5% Of Data Customers.

Verizon's Unlimited Data Plan Has A Throttle! http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
If you were thinking of believing Verizon and it's unlimited data plans, you are in for a surprise. Just keeping the American entrepreneurship alive, Verizon is following Henry Ford. Just like Mr. Ford said, that you could have any color as long as it is black, Verizon is telling you can have unlimited data, as long it below the limits we set. Well you might fall in to this group of users, so check it.

Verizon Wireless strives to provide customers the best experience when using our network, a shared resource among tens of millions of customers. To help achieve this, if you use an extraordinary amount of data and fall within the top 5% of Verizon Wireless data users we may reduce your data throughput speeds periodically for the remainder of your then current and immediately following billing cycle to ensure high quality network performance for other users at locations and times of peak demand. Our proactive management of the Verizon Wireless network is designed to ensure that the remaining 95% of data customers aren’t negatively affected by the inordinate data consumption of just a few users

Well, at least AT&T don't have to worry because at least their existing customers now will think twice before running to Verizon because for old customers, AT&T is still giving unlimited data, at least for now. New customer, it does not make much of a difference, which network they are attached to, Verizon and AT&T both have limits on data usage.
Memo also mentions of other measures Verizon Wireless is taking, to make Verizon Experience, less painful.

ISIS, A National Mobile Commerce Network From AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless,

#ISIS, #Paywithisis A National Mobile Commerce Network From AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Wireless big boys have come together to make a financial network, where you could make payments with your phone and and pay to your phone company, like Japanese customers have been doing for ages. The payments are made via a contactless mobile payment and commerce services using near-field communication technology. NFC uses short-range, high frequency wireless technology to enable the encrypted exchange of information between devices at a short distance. The system is not out of the woods yet but big honchos say it is being designed to include strong security and privacy safeguards.
Once the network and the system is ready, Barclaycard US, part of Barclays PLC, is expected to be the first issuer on the network, offering multiple mobile payment products to meet the needs of every customer.
“We believe the venture will have the scope and scale necessary to introduce mobile commerce on a broad basis. In the beginning, we intend to fully utilize Discover’s national payment infrastructure as well as Barclaycard’s expertise in contactless and mobile payments, Moving forward, Isis will be available to all interested merchants, banks and mobile carriers.” said Michael Abbott the Chief Executive Officer of Isis.
Following is the press release and visit Paywithisis to find more information. I wonder how VISA missed this! Link after the jump.

NEW YORK, NY — AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless today announced the formation of a joint venture chartered with building ISIS™, a national mobile commerce network that aims to fundamentally transform how people shop, pay and save.
Isis’ initial focus will be on building a mobile payment network that utilizes mobile phones to make point-of-sale purchases. By utilizing smartphone and near-field communication (NFC) technology to modernize the payments process, Isis intends to deliver new levels of competition and value to consumers and merchants. Isis expects to introduce its service in key geographic markets during the next 18 months.
Michael Abbott has been named as Chief Executive Officer of Isis. Formerly with GE Capital, Abbott is a veteran financial services executive with extensive experience in the payment and technology industries.
“Our mobile commerce network, through relationships with merchants, will provide an enhanced, more convenient, more personalized shopping experience for consumers,” said Michael Abbott, Chief Executive Officer of Isis. “While mobile payments will be at the core of our offering, it is only the start. We plan to create a mobile wallet that ultimately eliminates the need for consumers to carry cash, credit and debit cards, reward cards, coupons, tickets and transit passes.”
Isis Brings Both Consumer and Merchant Scale
Founding members, AT&T Mobility, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless, collectively provide wireless services to more than 200 million consumers who will have access to the Isis service. Isis is working with Discover Financial Services’ payment network, currently accepted at more than seven million merchant locations nationwide, to develop an extensive mobile payment infrastructure for the joint venture.
Barclaycard US, part of Barclays PLC, is expected to be the first issuer on the network, offering multiple mobile payment products to meet the needs of every customer.
“We believe the venture will have the scope and scale necessary to introduce mobile commerce on a broad basis. In the beginning, we intend to fully utilize Discover’s national payment infrastructure as well as Barclaycard’s expertise in contactless and mobile payments,” said Abbott. “Moving forward, Isis will be available to all interested merchants, banks and mobile carriers.”
How It Works
The new venture will enable contactless mobile payment and commerce services using near-field communication technology. NFC uses short-range, high frequency wireless technology to enable the encrypted exchange of information between devices at a short distance. The new system is being designed and built to include strong security and privacy safeguards.
About Isis
The joint venture is between AT&T Mobility LLC, T-Mobile USA and Verizon Wireless and is based in New York City. The venture is chartered with building ISIS™, a national mobile commerce network that will fundamentally transform how people shop, pay and save. The Isis mobile commerce network will be available to all merchants, banks and mobile carriers. ISIS is a trademark of JVL Ventures, LLC in the U.S. and/or other countries. Verizon Will Pay Up To $90 Million In Refunds.

#Verizon Will Pay Up To $90 Million In Refunds. http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Verizon announced today that it will refund up $90 million, one of the largest ever customer refunds by a telephony carrier.
The announcement came after Verizon Wireless held talks with FCC regarding customer complaints of unauthorized charges related to customers without data plans but accessed the internet with capable phones, costing one or more of $1.99 access charges.
Customers will receive $2 to $6 credits in their October or November bills. For former customers, it will be a check.
“These customers would normally have been billed at the standard rate of $1.99 per megabyte for any data they chose to access from their phones, The majority of the data sessions involved minor data exchanges caused by software built into their phones; others involved accessing the Web, which should not have incurred charges. We have addressed these issues to avoid unintended data charges in the future.” Verizon has stated.
But customers and media have informed Verizon over and over regarding these charges and did not pay attention to complaints until FCC began a formal investigation in to the unauthorized charges in January.
Regarding the refunds, FCC did not seem to be considering it is the end, “gratified to see the repayment, but for millions of Americans it’s a day late and a $1.99 short.Getting consumers repaid is just the first step; ensuring this doesn’t happen again comes next,” Michele Ellison, the chief of the FCC enforcement bureau, said in a statement.
Some of the complaints are recorded on The Times’s David Pogue's blog
Verizon Wireless Statement;

BASKING RIDGE, NJ — OFFICIAL STATEMENT.

May be attributed to Mary Coyne, Deputy General Counsel, Verizon Wireless:
Verizon Wireless values our customer relationships and we always want to do the right thing for our customers.
In October and November, we are notifying about 15 million customers, through their regular bill messages, that we are applying credits to their accounts due to mistaken past data charges. We will mail former customers refund checks. In most cases, these credits are in the $2 to $6 range; some will receive larger credits or refunds.
As we reviewed customer accounts, we discovered that over the past several years approximately 15 million customers who did not have data plans were billed for data sessions on their phones that they did not initiate. These customers would normally have been billed at the standard rate of $1.99 per megabyte for any data they chose to access from their phones. The majority of the data sessions involved minor data exchanges caused by software built into their phones; others involved accessing the web, which should not have incurred charges. We have addressed these issues to avoid unintended data charges in the future.
Verizon Wireless issues credits to customers from time to time based on regular review and monitoring. When we identify errors, we remedy them as quickly as possible. Our goal is to maintain our customers’ trust and ensure they receive the best experience possible.

Droids Do Video http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/
Verizon is offering V-Cast on Android based Droid for $10 a month. If you are a Video / TV or sports Buff, this one way to make sure you can watch everything, from where ever you are. It is bit pricey but I am an ardent Soccer fan and I am really looking forward to 2010 FIFA World Cup. There is no way I can watch all the matches on TV and I am really wondering if the extra $10 is worth. Guessing from all the stuff I spent on caps, jerseys and an ticket to South Africa, another $10 might not matter. According to Verizon there are more than 230 full length programs from 40 providers.
V CAST for for Droids could be found in the Verizon channel in Android Market and will run on Droid Incredible, Droid, Droid Eris, Devour from Motorola and Ally from LG. Looks pretty blue to me!

AT&T Loses Injunction Against Verizon Ad, Offers It's Own Ad

AT&T vs Verizon snapvoip.blogspot.com

Credit: Verizon

You can't call them droid wars but AT&T seems to be pissed off about Verizon ads. Now that an Atlanta Judge has ruled against AT&T in the lawsuit for an injunction against Verizon’s “There’s A Map for That” ad campaign. The court will hear the arguments again on December 16th and I guess by then ads might have done what the meant. It might be better for AT&T to start it's own campaign, "Best 3G experience over a EDGE network" or something,
Oh yes, they have done that;
