Apple Stores Getting Ready For 4G LTE iPhone?

Yesterday we spoke about major carriers testing 4G LTE iPhone, and what do we have here today. Some anon has sent Engadget a photo of AT&T LTE equipment being installed on premises of an Apple Store, some where.
Mah be the iPhone 5 coming in October is the 4G LTE iPhone.

Adding to the rumors of Apple iPhone 5, which might became an iPony under the now stronger Google Android, BGR seem to have recieved information on an iOS (iPony will have iOZ, pronounced I ooze) version that Apple’s carrier partners are using to test iPhone models with LTE capability.
The property list or PLIST indicates LTE device readiness. Perhaps Apple does not want to be left behind by all those Androids with 4G LTE capabilities. Still this does not guarantee that October release of iPhone 5 will have LTE capabilities. And when the 4G LTE iPhone does come out, I hope the battery life would be better than those pesky Droids with 4G capabilities.

No More Unlimited Data Plans From Verizon! , Tiered Pricing Coming This Summer.

I think most knew this was coming even though Verizon kept the unlimited data plans open to lure some AT&T customers over with initial iPhone offering. So the unlimited data plans will be replaced by more tiered pricing, perhaps based on speed (now that they got LTE) and usage. Verizon is also thinking of offering bucket of data family plans for families to share across phones and tablets.
"We had individual minutes for individual users. Then we eventually got to what we call family share where everyone in the family shares the same minutes, I think it's safe to assume that at some point you are going to have mega-plans (for data) and people are going to share that mega-plan based on the number of devices within their family. That's just a logical progression," Chief Financial Officer of Verizon, Fran Shammo, told Reuters  but failed provide a time frame for such mega-plans
What ever the case, Verizon does not look to making a client out of me, I have been looking for 4G, LTE carrier and simply based on pricing, it is not going to be Verizon, $10 a GB is not that attractive. And these indecisive packaging of data plans makes Verizon even less attractive. And if one to read the DSLReports forum comments, there might me a bunch of people leaving Verizon, when it snuffs unlimited data plans.

Looks like AT&T is going Google Friendly in 2011, after it nearly killed Google Voice on iPhone. May be it is begining to feel the heat form having to share the iPhone with a carrier with better network. AT&T is also taking care of 4G, or rather the lack of it, AT&T Mobility boss Ralph de la Vega said at the carrier's Developer Summit in Vegas today that he considers both LTE and HSPA+ to be 4G technologies, I agreed with him, saying my rump is red too, like those of snow monkeys.
Many of the devices were already announced at the Developer Summit at CES 2011, which even "bare naked ladies" could not drag me.. But knowing the experience, do not expect stock Android phones.
We will have to wait and see what AT&T's Android Strategy is. I really hope it to be different from it's iPhone Strategy.
AT&T also announced the mobile and U-verse integration.Through DLNA authentication, apps will control U_Verse TV experience. An iPad demo showed an show schedule on iPad control U-Verse DVR. But if you are an advertiser, you can jump up to AT&T's offering to the field, ComplemenTV. It allows to check what channel is being watched on the U-Verse and deliver extra content on the iPad, just like the ComCast Xfinity App.

Cisco Service Provider Mobility Community Network

I learned about a fantastic new portal at Cisco, Service Provider Mobility. With projected wireless slated to be growing 66 times the current level or equivalent of 120% annually and 4G networks looking to make us more productive on the go or otherwise, service provider community is going to be a very busy crowd.
So as usual, Cisco has stepped into fill a gap, a community portal for service providers to gather and discuss issues, wishes and achievement etc. Basically a social network for serive providers.
Perhaps the following should invoke your interest in mobile space;

1. New innovative applications such as YouTube, Flickr, WebEx
2. Exciting integrated devices such as the iPhone and Blackberry
3. Roll out of higher performance networks such as LTE, WiMAX
4. New business models enabled, and

AT&T LTE Coming In 2011

Long Term Evolution (LTE) network will be complete and ready in 2011 according to statements made by AT&T at the mobile world congress. LTE is theoretically much faster in downloads than HSPA+, at about 100Mbps, and has lower latency that should make multiplayer games, VoIP and two-way video calling more practical than on current 3G. My own 3G speed tests have been somewhat surprising and above average.

Hyperconnected Island Hopping: A recent study conducted by Nortel and IDC showed that hyperconnected workers would take their laptop out before their wallet or even mobile phone if they had to leave their house for 24 hours. In addition, roughly 30% of survey respondents have texted or emailed while on vacation. Based on this, you can bet that many laptops, smartphones, and other connected devices, get packed for summer travel. Luckily hotels commonly offer Internet to guests but some resort and tourist destinations are starting to offer more pervasive wireless access that would please hyperconnected vacationers. For example, an island-wide wireless mesh deployment on the Greek island of Patmos** will make this vacation hot spot a wireless hotspot. The Caribbean Islands can also be a haven for the hyperconnected with service providers in several sunny destinations expanding and upgrading their networks to offer the latest in wireless services such as web browsing, streaming video and multimedia messaging.
6. Hyperconnected Play Time: The sun is in your eyes and you've hit a long drive right into the rough. Rather than take a one stroke penalty for the lost ball, the ball emits a radio signal** which leads you right to it. Maybe you'll also be able to better gauge your next drive with the whole course mapped out and displayed on a screen in your golf cart** through a combination of GPS and WiFi. The golf equipment is just some of a whole host of technology on the market today that makes use of connectivity to enhance leisure experiences. Technology is also making it easier to connect with friends while on the go. The combination of devices like the iPhone with GPS and social networking is making it possible to see what friends are on the same golf course, at the same baseball game or just in the same general area as you are when enjoying the summer sun.

World's First Demonstration of LTE over Advanced Wireless Services Spectrum!

LAS VEGAS – Nortel* and LG Electronics, a leader in digital electronics and mobile phones, have accomplished two "world firsts" that demonstrate the mobile broadband power of 4G LTE. LTE wireless broadband technology can put wireless Internet and popular mobile multimedia applications like mobile entertainment and productivity applications, HD streaming video, video collaboration and unified communications into the hands of consumers who want to access them while on the go.

World's First Demonstration of LTE over Advanced Wireless Services Spectrum

At CTIA Wireless 2008 Nortel and LG Electronics are presenting the world's first demonstration of LTE over the advanced wireless services** (AWS) spectrum - special bands (1.7 GHz and 2.1 GHz) in the airwaves that can be used to run 4G wireless networks. Visitors to both the Nortel and LG Electronics booths at CTIA Wireless 2008 will be able to witness the enhanced wireless user experience delivered by LTE with a variety of bandwidth hungry and real-time services, like high-definition (HD) streaming video, transmitted live over the AWS spectrum. The demonstration shows standards-based interoperability between Nortel's LTE Solution and the handset platform developed by LG Electronics. Nortel will also be offering LTE solutions - as well as CDMA EV-DO solutions - for the recently auctioned 700 MHz spectrum.

World's First Demonstration of LTE Mobile Broadband Performance in a Fast-Moving Vehicle

Nortel and LG Electronics have achieved the world's first demonstration of mobile LTE while traveling in a vehicle at 110 kilometers per hour with data rates of up to 50 Mbps - fast enough to support mobile multimedia applications. Customers who visit Nortel's 4G Centre of Excellence in Ottawa, Canada can see how LTE can make long drives and business commutes more bearable by delivering high-speed wireless Internet services like VoIP and streaming video to passengers in moving vehicles. Nortel's LTE Mobility demonstration is a milestone in the path towards true mobile broadband, taking the applications in stationary environments to vehicular speeds.

Both demonstrations are carried out over 'live networks' which means that they have the same characteristics as the real world LTE networks that will be deployed by operators. For example, Nortel's demonstration LTE networks have advanced features that allow them to adapt in real-time to variations in signal strength as the user moves around.

LG Electronics Says…

"LTE represents a major step forward in mobile network technology and at LG we see accelerated development of LTE platforms as extremely beneficial to our customers," said Jinsung Choi, head of LG Electronics Mobile Communications Tech Research Lab. "With this technology, people will be able to access applications like streaming HD video, real-time video surveillance and media-rich social networking from their mobile phones. This is why LG engineers have worked side-by-side with engineers at Nortel and LG-Nortel since 2006 to commercialize LTE as quickly as possible."
