If you remember the facebook phone saga, like the facebook phone, you can turn the pages again. Facebook phone is back but not in the way we discussed or imagined. Now it looks exactly like the phone in your hand, be it an iPhone, Android phone, or any other smartphone supported by Facebook Messenger and as long as you have the Facebook Messenger app loaded. You also need to share your mobile number in order to participate in Facebook free calls.
If you have the latest Facebook’s Messenger app and provided that you are in U.S.A, you can place  voice calls over WiFi.
So how do I make a free call with the Facebook messenger? Pretty simple, you need to hit the “i” info icon in any of the messenger pages like a conversation or contact information page. In the panel there is a “Free Call” button that you can use to make a call. But your friend must have shared his / her mobile number with Facebook and should be available for a call.

Just like the other facebook phones, facedroids and others like HTC Status, during the first discovery, this facebook phone from Motorola too has scant information. But from the photos Grabbed from Bluetooth SIG clearly shows a facebook button displayed prominently at the left end of the keypad and full screen Facebook UI components. It also sports a full QWERTY keyboard, and a 2.4 inch landscape display.

There is also another model named EX226, carrying very similar details and photos so the difference must be internal. Here is the description of the phone on Bluetooth SIG;

After waiting and playing the same game, AT&T finally released news saying that HTC Status will come to it's air waves, for $49.99 with a two year contract. As you can see the phone comes loaded with bunch of functions, specially the "f" button that will allow users to share, photos, videos or anything else that people share with others. This phone is a part of HTC's dancing duo, HTC Salsa and HTC Chacha, HTC Facebook phones!
Phone is supposed to ship with Android 2.3.3 and and being HTC, Sense will accompany the OS and other stuff like Led flash assisted 5MP camera, 2.6" touch panel.

Remember the INQ mobile Ltd. phone with a facebook logo (above from our post, Facebook Phone, Facephone Coming Soon? last September) it looks like is coming back. According to an article on Bloomberg, facebook has said, while declining to give specifics on the phones, the company continues to work with INQ Mobile. INQ  previously sold phones with Facebook features, along with other companies. London-based INQ has also declined to comment. INQ is based in London and is backed by Hong Kong telecommunications carrier Hutchison Whampoa Ltd. which is chaired by Li Ka-Shing, the billionaire who  also has invested in Facebook.
“We’ve been working with INQ for a couple of years now to help them build a deeply integrated Facebook experience on their devices, While we can’t speak for their future product development plans, we can say that our view is that almost all experiences would be better if they were social.” Palo Alto, California-based Facebook said in an e- mailed statement to Bloomberg.
Facebook Inc. is working with INQ Mobile Ltd. on two smartphones that may be carried by AT&T Inc., according to three people familiar with the matter but the products will launch in Europe in the first half of 2011. The US launch is scheduled for the second half. The same people whom Bloomberg got information has sait, AT&T is yet to come to an agreement to carry Phones.

Now there is this report saying that a user saw calling feature on facebook related to chat. According to the user;
“So I was just chatting on Facebook chat and I got the option to ‘call’ my friend. it swiftly disappeared.”
Either way, Facebook will have calling features, either through deep integrated Facebok Skype, Facebook Voice Mashups, facebook conferencing (Iotum) or Facebook Mobile VoIP on closely integrated HTC Facebook handsets.

Facebook is denying that it will release a facebook branded phone at the MWC, Mobile World Congress. Saying there is no such thing in the works.A lot of people including us (Facedroids) took what was published by a London Newspaper City A.M and ran with it.
But Dan Rose, head of business development at Facebook told of a HTC device, that has Facebook deep rooted;

"The rumors around there being something more to this HTC device are overblown,this is really just another example of a manufacturer who has taken our public APIs (application programing interfaces) and integrated them into their device in an interesting way, "

Looks like HTC together with Facebook will showcase Two Android based phones as Facebook Phones, FaceDroids.
The phones will run on a tweaked version of Google’s Android operating system and will prominently display users’ Facebook messages and news feed on the home screen. Will they really stop sharing the user phone numbers.
As the FaceDroid rumor goes,  Joe Hewitt (who worked on the Firefox web browser) and Matthew Papakipos (a leading member of the Google Chrome browser team) are thought to be behind the Facebook Phone.

FacePhone, The Facebook Phone, May Be, No, Yes And It Goes On

Since TechCrunch broke the news on the Facebook Phone, news has been running amok regarding the Facephone.  First was facebook announcement, "No facebook phone". Then facebook CEO Mark Zuckerberg was interviewed by TechCrunch which brought out;

Jason Kincaid: So, it sounds like a customized version of Android seems like the best thing, the deepest integration you could do without building your own operating system.
Mark Zuckerberg: Yeah, and I mean…
Michael Arrington: Is that putting words in your mouth?
Mark Zuckerberg: No, I mean, we’ve looked a bunch of different technical things.

But things are getting warmer now with Bloomberg reporting the same INQ phone that was mentioned, will be the FacePhone and will hit the Europe first before coming to US, through perhaps, AT&T. INQ is said to be running Android based OS but TC says the Android OS might be modified for "deeper Facebook integration".
I think, at the end parents will have a way to escape from buying those teenagers, expensive iPhones. INQ those deals Facebook.

Update: Facebook says no! No Facephone it seems. But We will believe you when you don'd says TC. A new link about facebook PR utterances refering to some iNQ phone added at the bottom. 

Yes if Techcrunch is right it seems. Facebook alarmed by the iPhone and Google's own Android, Nexus One, has quietly been building a phone of it's own, Facephone! Facepalm on you Google, and you too Apple.
The facebook phone said to be worked on by two high level Facebook employees – Joe Hewitt and Matthew Papakipos. Yes that is iPhone facebook app Joe Hewitt. Papakipos has sailed from Google Chrome to facebook.
TC thinks it will be a low cost phone around $50 with all the facebook features users want built in and from what I read it is going to be just a phone with facebook, one that you can call your friends just shouting the name of your friend at the phone.
I think it will take much more than that to make me use facebook phone, my old iPhone 3G and my T-Mobile G1, can do all those and more. Once I get my replacement for Apple 3G, soon, it is going to be hard to move me, to a cheap phone. Then again, most of the facebook users are teenagers with smaller pockets. Yes, it might fly! like the Google's Nexus One, in to the oblivion.
