The Panasonic KX-WP800 Skype Phone Released In Japan.

The Panasonic KX-WP800 Skype phone will be released at the end of this month, in Japan. The phone comes with it's own wireless gateway and there is no need of a computer to make a call.

The Panasonic KX-WP800 is a Wi-Fi enabled phone with a 1.8 inch LCD color display. The additional features include;

  • 55 hours of standby time
  • 4.5 hours of talk time
  • Connectivity to the FON network
  • Bundled with 802.11b/g router

The Livedoor FON access points are available in Japan, supposed to have about 2200 just in Tokyo should surely provide a use for the Panasonic KX-WP800 beyond the house or your gateways reach. If you are a registered FON user you can take the handset with you and it will automatically log onto any FON hotspots you come across, allowing you to make VoIP calls over WiFI. The Phone will be vailable from March 28, 2008 for US$290, bit too expensive for my taste.

The phone weighs only a mere 100g and provides you with 4.5 hours of talk-time and 55 hours of stand-by time. This Skype phone priced at $296 USD, may be heavy on the budget, however reduces your regular phone bill with its Skype and Wi-Fi features.
