AsteriskNOW 1.7.1 With Add-on Installer Module For FreePBX Is Ready For You.

Rod Montgomery recently announced that AsteriskNOW 1.7.1 (Wow, that took a long time to release, nevertheless we are happy!) has been released. This time it has something up the sleeve or trunk, a new module for FreePBX that allows installation of Digium add-on software from within the AsteriskNOW interface. Getting Digium’s G729 codec, Fax for Asterisk, HPEC, or Skype for Asterisk. We’ve also made some changes to make AsteriskNOW even friendlier for newcomers to the Asterisk community.
With AsteriskNOW, you can get among other things;

  • Skype Gateway
  • IP PBX
  • Call Center ACD
  • Conference Bridge
  • IVR Server
  • Voicemail System

We have been running AsteriskNOW a long time, so much so that this time we even decided to change the machine that it was running, a pentium 4 machine with a newer and speedier AMD Phenom II machine. Like we did,  Download AsteriskNOW run it in a virtual machine or on a dedicated machine. Either way you will enter the future of VoIP IP Telephony, with ease.

FreePBX 2.7 Available For Download.

FreePBX team has released the final version of FreePBX 2.7 and available for download from the FreePBX.org. You can also put the FreePBX on the cloud.
The system has gone through numerous changes, addons and bug fixes during it's development phase. The most notable changes were around the Fax handling coming from the new FAX module. The new FAX module for FreePBX has a very intuitive GUI for sending and receiving FAXes through both shared voice/FAX DIDs ( require detection) and dedicated FAX DIDs. Also introduced was the support for FAX For Asterisk (FFA) in addition to the traditional spanddsp based FAX reception.
There are more information regarding the FreePBX 2.7 and a more comprehensive list of features and bugs addressed as well as an overall summary are in the 2.7 Milestone with links and stats to all 142 closed Feature Request and Bug tickets addressed during the developmental run!

Fax For Asterisk 1.1.6 Released!

Digium has announced the release of Fax For Asterisk 1.1.6 for open source Asterisk. Digium attests that this a a commercial grade FAX add-on module.

The latest release brings number of improvements;

* Support for 64-bit Linux installations.

* Reduction in resource consumption, and increase in performance, of T.38 session handling.

* Simplification of session handling during transition from G.711 to T.38 mode.

* Adoption of the latest Asterisk T.38 negotiation API, ensuring interoperability with a wide range of T.38 endpoints.

Note: Because this release uses the very latest T.38 negotiation mechanism in Asterisk, you need to check the Fax For Asterisk download selector lists for the Asterisk versions supported by the latest release.

Asterisk Release Galore At Asterisk Org

New Asterisk releases
Asterisk Dev Team has announced the general release of the second release candidate of 1.6.0.11, the release of 1.6.1.2, the first release candidate of 1.6.1.3, and the fourth beta of 1.6.2.0.

Asterisk1.6.1.2 release eliminates a remote crash security vulnerability in the RTP stack, which announced via security advisory AST-2009-004, which was also released along with the release announcement.

All the release candidates and betas, contain a major re-work of the T.38 support in Asterisk (Fax for Asterisk). If any of you been experiencing problems with T.38 implementation in the 1.6 series, one of these release candidates might make you smile.
