SippySkype,Free SIP to Skype Gateway,

Finally someone, MHSPOT, has done what Skype has been dragging its feet. Providing a means to talk to someone on a SIP phone using Skype or vise versa. I have downloaded the package but have not tested it yet. I am still using CooSIP that I wrote about earlier. So what does the SippySkype offer us?
From the website;

  • SippySkype is Java software that allows you to make and receive Skype calls from your SIP/VOIP adapter. Basically a Skype/SIP Bridge/Gateway/Proxy
  • Call Skype Users using speed dial or use Skype out.
  • SIP to Skype authentication/denial mappings via SIP caller ID and IP blocks
  • Skype to SIP authentication/denial mappings via incoming Skype User ID
  • Support RFC2833 touchtone decoding (DTMF)
  • Could be used as an endpoint with Asterisk
  • Auto play pre-recorded file(s) to SIP callers
  • Incoming SIP Pin number authentication and dialing
  • Open Source - You can modify/fix it if you like.
  • It's free - Don't pay anything to anyone to use this software.
Well that is good enough for me. and igf the calls complete without much fuss, even better. SippySkype source code is provided with the package available to download. So if you are a wiz, you can tailer it to match your needs, or provide developer assistance with bug fixing etc.
If you like to try it out, you can download it from MHSPOT.COM.
If you do try it out, remember these current Issues:
  • SIP provider registration goes haywire after a few hours. Best not to register until fixed. If it works for you, great.
  • Supports only PCMU/G.711 codec and probably will stay that way.
  • Supports only one simultaneous call.
