LG, GOOGLE Sign A Patent Agreement

LG-GOOGLE has signed a patent sharing agreement enabling the duo to cross-license of all existing patents between the duo, and any new fillings / awards over next decade.

LG already collaborates with Google in producing Nexus devices and both are important to each other. LG has become a strong player in the Android arena and it will be advantageous for Google to have LG on the friendly side.

SEOUL and MOUNTAIN VIEW, Calif., Nov. 5, 2014 — LG Electronics Inc. (LG) and Google Inc. have entered into a long-term patent cross-licensing agreement covering a broad range of products and technologies. The agreement covers the two companies’ existing patents as well as those filed over the next 10 years.

 

“We’re pleased to enter into this agreement with a leading global technology company like LG,” said Allen Lo, deputy general counsel for patents at Google. “By working together on cross-licenses like this, companies can focus on bringing great products and services to consumers around the world.”

 

This agreement builds on the long-standing strong alliance between Google and LG Electronics, the companies said. 

 

“LG values its relationship with Google, and this agreement underscores both companies’ commitment to developing new products and technologies that enhance consumers’ lives,” said J.H. Lee, executive vice president and head of the LG Electronics Intellectual Property Center.

Samsung is leading the World wide mobile phone market with having 78.1 million units shipped and Apple following with 39.3 units shipped. The new comer to the charts, Xiaomi beats Lenovo, LG and others to garner position 3 with 17.3 million units shipped.
Even though Samsung leads the market, it lost 8.2% of the market share over the year. Apple had a growth of 16.1 and again the Xiaomi is the leader in this arena with 211.3 growth over the year. Xiaomi growth is attributed to it's focus on China and adjacent markets and the company's flagship phone. MI4, released in August this year. MI4 competes with Samsung S5 and iPhone, specially in China and east Asia.
“Despite rumors of a slowing market, smartphone shipments continue to see record-setting volumes. We’ve finally reached a point where most developed markets are experiencing single-digit growth while emerging markets are still growing at more than 30 percent collectively,” said Ryan Reith, program director with IDC’s Worldwide Quarterly Mobile Phone Tracker.

LG announcing LG Optimus (Black) with Nova Display, purporting to be worlds brightest display (700nit versus usual 400nit on other units) providing better viewing experience with efficient battery consumption, as less as 15% less than the other displays in use.
The phone it self is slimmer, 0.36 inch and light, 3.8 oz made even slimmer look with tapering side edges. But the slimness does not stop the phone having a 1500mAh battery providing a full day of use.
Two cameras, one facing front is 2 MP for video conferencing and the back camera can record videos at 1080P.
The phone comes with Android 2.2 Froyo with Android 2.3 Gingerbread upgrade capability.

Looks like LG planing for a new avenue to concur the tablet world. A new Tablet, a windows 7 based one, H1000B just arrived at the FCC site.
The tablet has wifi and bluetooth which FCC tested seems to be running Windows 7 and is classified as a portable computer. But the Digital reader did some hunting and found the picture below that matches H1000B.
