Trump lifts ban on US companies that prevented them selling to Huawei

President Trump said U.S. companies that sell components and services to Chinese firm Huawei could resume selling them;
‘We send and we sell to Huawei and tremendous amount of product that goes into the things that they make, and I said that we would keep selling that product’

The remarks were made at a press conference in Osaka, Japan, during the G20 summit in Japan, Trump was answering to a question from the press and said that he had told the Chinese leader Xi Jinping that Huawei would be allowed to buy U.S. goods once again.  .

Continuing remarks ensured that the change had been mostly due to the pressure from U.S. suppliers who were prevented from selling their products to Huawei rather than any material difference in Trump’s position regarding national security concerns around the tech giant’s relationship with the Chinese government. Trump said that the U.S. companies were ‘not exactly happy that they couldn’t sell.’

MOSCOW: China’s Huawei, considered a security threat in the US, on Wednesday signed a deal with Russian telecoms company MTS to develop a 5G network in the country over the next year.

The agreement was signed on the sidelines of a meeting between Chinese leader Xi Jinping and Russian President Vladimir Putin in Moscow.

The deal will see “the development of 5G technologies and the pilot launch of fifth generation networks in 2019-2020“, MTS said in a statement.

Quoted in the statement, Huawei’s Guo Ping, said he was “very happy” with the agreement “in an area of strategic importance like 5G.”
The Chinese telecom giant has been in turmoil since May, when the Trump administration banned US companies from selling high-tech equipment to Huawei over suspicions it is spying for Beijing.

Experts say the US decision, to come into force within three months, threatens the survival of the company, which is highly dependent on US chips for its phones.

Several companies have already distanced themselves from Huawei, including Google, Vodafone(phones), SoftBank, whose Android system equips the vast majority of smartphones in the world.

Huawei’s reported potential involvement in Britain’s 5G network has proved politically sensitive and Theresa May’s government insists no decision has been made on the issue. -- AFP

Commercial Licenses For 5G Will Soon Be Granted In China

 

China will soon issue 5G licenses for commercial use, the country's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) said on Monday.

"China started 5G research experiments in 2016, and entered the third stage of system verification this year," Wen Ku, head of the MIIT information and communication department, said at the ongoing first Digital China Summit in Fuzhou, capital of southeast China's Fujian Province. 

Wen said device manufacturers such as Huawei and Ericsson had participated in the development of 5G products to help create a complete 5G industrial chain.

China has launched 5G cooperation mechanisms with Japan, the Republic of Korea, the European Union and the United States, with international companies joining the research and development, he said. 

China will apply 5G technology to terminal devices as early as the second half of 2019, leading to the primary commercialization of the technology in the near future, according to an official with the Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT).

5G and Data Caps, BBC Finds the limits of 5G in a demo broadcast via 5G in Covent Garden, London

EE a UK cellular provider, one of the first to offer 5G services, launched its 5G network in six cities across the United Kindom, Belfast, Birmingham, Cardiff, Edinburgh, London, and Manchester. So BBC stepped in to demo and show us the virtues of 5G and the capabilities since 5G is brand new and except for the few outside the carriers and tech companies are yet to experience the capabilities.
The above video (Reporter Rory Cellan-Jones doing a live report during its BBC Breakfast program that was streamed over EE’s 5G network on last Thursday.) is broadcast live over 5G and if we were not told so, we would not have known. The transmission from Covent Garden, London achieved 260MB throughput.
Then the reality hit the scene, the cellular equipment provided by Huawei, the BBC Breakfast team was using to stream the broadcast suddenly stopped working. After a 15 minutes of delay,  it was found the problem was not with the equipment but with the 5G network; the SIM card used for the live stream had simply reached its data cap, shutting down the broadcast.
So for those who are eagerly waiting for 5G, this is a problem that many will inevitably experience once they start streaming 4K Netflix movies to their phones.Unless you are very rich or have a hefty telecom budget, better watch 4K movies at home.

Vodafone and EE Pulls Breaks on Huawei Phone Deployment and ARM Stops All Business With the Chinese Company

Huawei's troubles seem to be multiplying. two telecommunications companies have now suspended launch of Huawei's 5G phones. Vodafone and EE, say they will be delaying their launches of 5G handsets made by Huawei.
In addition to the phone companies, another British chip company, ARM Holdings, is suspending its business with the Chinese firm. This is a great blow as Japan's Softbank Group owned ARM provides intellectual property used in 90 percent of the world's mobile processors.
The phone companies cite uncertainty revolving around the Huawei and it's devices. Vodafone will be holding off on the Mate 20X model. EE was planing to use a Huawei for rollout of next-generation 5G services.
Softbank and KDDI stopped using Huawei phones in Japan as well.

Google and other Tech Companies like Intel, Qualcomm, Xilinx, and Broadcom are Curbing Business with Huawei

Google along with integrated circuit makers Intel, Qualcomm, Xilinx & Broadcom have stopped providing services, hardware and software to #Huawei, according people in the know. Google cut off the hardware and some software services to the Chinese giant in a large way affecting Huawei's phone business.
In addition to how the trade war is spreading, today’s Huawei license removal confirms that the Android is not truly an open source product. Every phone maker using Android OS relies on on the Google Play Store for services and Apps. There’s AOSP, Android Open Source Project but who uses it for serious work?. On the other hand,  Google has been moving many APIs from AOSP into Play Services. I think Huawei is in loads of trouble and a loads more in the supply and product chain.

The moves, which had been anticipated, hamstring the world’s largest provider of networking gear and No. 2 smartphone vendor. The Trump administration on Friday blacklisted Huawei -- which it accuses of aiding Beijing in espionage -- and threatened to cut it off from the U.S. software and semiconductors it needs to make its products. Blocking the sale to Huawei of critical components could also disrupt the businesses of American chip giants like Micron Technology Inc. and retard the rollout of critical 5G wireless networks worldwide -- including in China. That in turn could hurt U.S. companies that are increasingly reliant on the world’s second largest economy for growth.

Yes it might become a messy afair.
