In celebration of international Global Accessibility Awareness Day (GAAD) on May 16th, UCSF Web Services is hosting a drop-in event at the entrance and main floor of the Parnassus Library.
The purpose of GAAD is to get everyone talking, thinking and learning about digital (web, software, mobile, etc.) access/inclusion for the one billion people who have different abilities. While people may be interested in the topic, the reality is that they often do not know how or where to start. Awareness comes first.
Stop by to become more aware about digital accessibility and celebrate the right of every individual to enjoy equal access to the Internet. Some of the activities include:
  • Personal Device Accessibility Features: Drop in to learn about free accessibility features you might not know are available on your personal devices, such as enlarging text or reading text aloud on the iPhone or Samsung Galaxy.
  • Screen Reader Demos: Experience what it’s like to hear a webpage. Have your UCSF website "read" by a screen reader with our consultant Marc Sutton to make sure vision-impaired users can get to all your content. Walk-ins welcome but UCSF badge is required for entry to only this station. First come first served.
  • The "No Mouse" Challenge: Use the web without a mouse. Use the keyboard instead. Can you access all the features and operate all the buttons, sliders, and other controls without a mouse?
Register below and visit us anytime between 10 am - 1 pm at the Parnassus Library.
Please sign-up if you would like to attend so we can get an idea of how many people to expect.
This event is co-sponsored by the UCSF Library.
