Currently on going annual Snapdragon Technology Summit in Hawaii, Qualcomm Technologies, Inc., a subsidiary of Qualcomm Incorporated (NASDAQ: QCOM), brought together big guns of the  mobile world together. Among those who were present were, AT&T, EE, Telstra and Verizon as well as global infrastructure provider Ericsson and global network infrastructure and mobile device leader Samsung. Also in the front seats were the device makers Motorola, NETGEAR and Inseego, who were there to introduce the first commercial 5G mobile platform, Qualcomm® Snapdragon™ 855 Mobile Platform.
Snapdragon 855 Unveiled as the First Commercial 5G Mobile Platform to Enable Commercial 5G Networks and Mobile Devices in Early 2019, featuring Multi-Gigabit 5G Connectivity that will lead to other advancements like AI, computational photography, and Mobile gaming.

“Today marks a massive and exciting step forward underscoring how Qualcomm Technologies and ecosystem leaders are driving 5G commercialization, a journey that went from R&D, accelerated standardization and trials, the launch of innovative products and technologies, to the imminent launch of 5G networks and smartphones across the globe starting in early 2019,  Together we are demonstrating our role in transforming the mobile industry and enriching consumer experiences with 5G mobile devices on live 5G networks at this year’s Qualcomm Snapdragon Technology Summit.” said Cristiano Amon, president, Qualcomm Incorporated.

Injecting AI in more places in phones has been an ongoing trend for a few years and Qualcomm has tripled the AI performance with the 855 chip. A more powerful AI Engine should improve everything from advanced camera features (like object and scene detection or processing depth-of-field for portrait mode photos) to making digital assistants more responsive, and more. The improved AI engine in the 855, will also improve AR and mixed-reality capabilities of the phones. Phones like the Google Pixel 3 will be able to even further develop computational photography to provide what it is already providing with Night Sight, a mode that takes night shots and literally turns them into photos that look like they were shot during the day.

Mobile gaming is becoming as big as the console games and continues to grow with more people playing performance-taxing games like Fortnite on the phones leading more companies to release game-centric phones, Qualcomm's 855 will bring the ground works necessary for improving the experience.
