Blackberry10 To Add Skype, Amazon Kindle And Others 70000 Apps

Blackberry10 http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

Blackberry10 will add 70,000 apps to Blackberry world, more than any of the first generation mobile OS platform at the first go. Then again, it is thanks to all those other mobile OS platforms that attracted developers to develop ads for them, RIM is able to boast about 70,000 apps.
I will not predict about RIM gaining the top spot it had for years in the smartphone arena, but if there is any chance for it to survive, in the competitive mobile market this is it.
But if there is anything to the BlackBerry, this is how RIM wants to portray it (Click on the video to see it larger);

Apple Dethroned As The Worlds Most Valuable Company

Apple Loses Crown As The Worlds Most Valuable Company http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

Apple has once again lost the top spot as the worlds most valuable company as this morning, Exxon managed to snatch the title from Apple. Last time this happened, Apple’s market cap was $346.74 billion vs. Exxon’s $348.32 billion. Now Exxon-mobile has 417.59 Billion and Apple has a Market Cap of 413.91 Billion. I guess Exxon has been more mobile thatn Apple.

But Apple's value has gone much higher since the last time Apple was dethroned in August 2011.

Samsung Captures And Leads Global Samartpnone Market Share http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

Well while Apple shares (AAPL) are setting records (loss of +$60 a share yesterday , Samsung seems to be setting / breaking other records.
Strategy Analytics, A research firm tells us that Samsung shipped 213 million smartphones during 2012 and set a record for most units shipped by a smartphone vendor in a single year, breaking the previous record held by Nokia, which shipped 100.1 million units in 2010.
Apple and Nokia combined was still behind Samsung in smartphone sales. Apple shipped 138.8 million phones in 2012 with Nokia, once the world leader, shipping only 35 million units. Just like Nokia at it's peak, Samsung was able to satisfy most of the smartphone market with variety of models. Samsung Galaxy S III and Galaxy Note attracted the jet setters and other Galaxy phones at lower price points satisfying others.

Samsung Sold 700,000 Samsung Galaxy Phones A Day Q4,12

Samsung Sold 700,000 Samsung Galaxy Phones A Day http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

Samsung made record profits for the Q4,2012, reporting $8.27 billion in operating profit, $52.45 billion in revenue, and $6.6 billion in net income. This is a increase if total operating profit up 89% year-on-year. The handset sales were up 58%, accounting for more than 50% of all operating profit.

Guess rounded corners instigation could not keep customers away from Samsung phones like Samsung Galaxy SIII, Samsung Galaxy Note iterations.
Comparing Apples to Galaxy's, Apple sold 48 million iPhones vs 68 million Samsung smartphones. Samsung has a whole slew of phones that considered to be non smartphones. But all is not that rosy and read the Samsung statement as they mentioned, "Expect intensified competition amid smartphone growth slowdown."

63% Of Verizon Smartphone Sales Are Apple iPhone.

Verizon Sells 6.2 Million iPhones http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

Looks like Apple is doing good in Verizon arena and Verizon with iPhone in Smartphone arena. Verizon sold 9.8 million smartphones and 6.2 million of them were iPhones. iPhone 5 also did well in the Verizon shelves, selling 4 million units in the last quarter.

“In the fourth quarter, we activated 9.8 million smartphones, which was by far our highest total ever, about 65 percent of these smartphones were 4G LTE, and in terms of Apple iPhones, we activated about 6.2 million in the quarter, and almost half were 4G LTEs.” Verizon’s chief financial officer Fran Shammo said in today’s earnings call.

iPhone 5 sales helped Apple to pass 50% smartphone sales in the US since it was introduced and kept Android and other smartphone at bay during the holiday season. But the Verizon numbers are really big numbers and sweet songs for Tim Cook.
Of the remaining 3.6 million smartphones, majority were Android phones and of those, over 95% were LTE phones.
The company continued to enhance its device lineup with new smartphones and tablets. In the fourth quarter, Verizon Wireless launched eight 4G LTE smartphones: the DROID RAZR HD and DROID RAZR MAXX HD by Motorola; Windows Phone 8X by HTC; Nokia Lumia 822; Samsung Galaxy Note II; Spectrum 2 by LG; Samsung Galaxy Stratosphere II; and the DROID DNA by HTC.  In addition, Verizon Wireless launched three tablets in the quarter: the Samsung Galaxy Tab 2, Apple iPad with Retina display and Apple iPad mini.
With all this, Verizon (VZ) with a $1.93 billion loss in the holiday quarter.

Did Apple Force Google To Innovate?

http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

Well it is certainly another way to look at the current Apple Ecosystem and how the Google under growth is taking over the forest. With longtime Apple product user / diehard apple fans telling us that ""Google is getting better at design faster than Apple is getting better at web services."" there got to be something to it. Yep, got to read about Apple and Twitter.
Matt Asay of ReadWrite confirms the fact with more details and link like the Twitter and Apple.

Why Genius' Were Wrong About Samsung Galaxy Note!

Samsung Galaxy Note II http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

The Boy genius' told us that Samsung Galaxy Note is one of the worst phones slated for a quick demise.  I am sure they failed to notice the love for the device by other people outside of genius circle.
this is a device fit for use only by such a small subset of the human population that I can’t fathom how AT&T and Samsung are putting so much marketing resources behind it.
Even Gizmodo, who seem take clues about Galaxy Note from a trainer at a Gym and yet failed to recognize the love the trainer and five million others, (at the time of writing by Gizmodo), joined  the farce about Galaxy Note. May be they are in need of good screwdrivers :)
A good screwdriver needs a comfortable handle and a point that won't dull easily. A good phone needs to fit well in your hand, and allow you to use it without a lot of fussing around. Human fingers are only so long. Like the screwdriver, it's a tool—and a tool is only a good tool if it's designed to be used well.

But Samsung thumbed nose at these genius' and others, continued sell 10 million units in 2012, making it one of the most successful smartphone launches  Now Samsung is into the second iteration of the device Galaxy Note II, which is estimated to sell 20 million units. I think it is hard to know what established market research could do, unless you got the knowledge. That does not apply only to Galaxy Note, everything else that is sold to people, like you and me.  It is a reminder for me to check twice before assuming all the genius' are right or wrong.

Q4'12 iPad Sales Might Not Be As Rosy As Assumed

Tablet Sales courtesy TrendForce
iPad Sales TrendForce http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

TrendForce, a market research firm based in China is reporting that Apple's iPad sale decline may be worse than previously assumed. Market saw a decline in Apples share prices ahead of the Q4'12 financial report. Some fear that the market dominance held by Apple is slowly slipping.

There are also others who reported along the same lines. “Sharp’s iPad screen production line at its Kameyama plant in central Japan has fallen to the minimal level to keep the line running this month after a gradual slowdown began at the end of 2012,” Reuters reporting about Apple's 9.7 inch inch screen production.

Trendforce reports “The tablet shipment showed dramatic growth, As Apple’s 9.7” product saw lower-than-expected sales in Q4’12, the inconsistency emerged between panel suppliers’ output and clients’ procurement. But Apple increased procurement significantly at the end of the year on concern of maintaining the following relationship with suppliers, resulting in a noticeable 25.6% growth in the overall tablet panel shipment MoM to 19.34 million units, but Apple‘s act must drag down the 9.7” product demand even more in Q1’13.”
It might be a sign of iPad mini biting in to iPad sales. Apple started iPad mini to compete with other small tablets from, mainly Samsung. So follow the links. do some research, if you rely on Apple to bring food to your table.

Snappgrip To Turn Your Samsung Galaxy SIII, iPhone Into A Point & Shoot Camera

Snappgrip To Turn Your Smartphone Into A Point & Shoot Camera http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

Let us say that you use your phone for more than talking, yep that is why you got a smartphone. Let us say you are a instagram or the newly release Flickr app junkie, photographing everything in sight and posting them online! Well we have got a suggestion for you, and me.
Me because I carry a camera with me all the time and mine is a heavy expensive DSLR and it hard to carry it around. Since I switched to iPhone 5 recently (Shame on you Google, for making me wait so long for the Nexus 4) I see that I do not need a big camera to fulfill my everyday simple needs of photography. iPhone 5 does a good job with Photography.

Alright, now to the suggestion, if you own an iPhone or a Samsung Galaxy SIII and the like, you can do away with having to haul a full sized DSLR around the whole day. On the other hand why spend hundreds of dollars on a point and shoot, when your smartphone is capable of doing exactly the same. But these phones lack true camera feel When taking photos. I like to have better grip and a shutter button that allows me to focus when half pressed. Well someone, Snapgripp has come out with a solution. Snappgrip is a successfully funded Kickstarter project for a smartphone case that provides a point and shoot grip.

Snappgrip connects to your smartphone via Bluetooth transforming your smartphone into an actual point and shoot camera with all the camera functions you’d expect, such as half press to focus, full press to release the shutter, in and out zoom and even a tripod mount. I am sure Snappgrip gives a much more comfortable feel when taking photos than having to tap the screen to take a one. The design is very nice and you don't have fee ashamed to attach it to your pricey smart phone.

If you think it is the ting for you, there's a few days  on their Kickstarter campaign to make your preorder by making a pledge. The case will ship by February, at least that is the plan of the project by Lee Harris.

Free SIP Account Providers 2013

A new updated post now available.

Free SIP Account Providers 2014

#SIP Account, #SIP Provider Free SIP Account Providers 2013 http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

Well it is 2013 and we got to update one of our popular posts, Free SIP Account Provider List. If we are go in to all the numerology, if we add up all the numbers in 2012, it will be 6, So we listed 6 good free SIP account providers.
If you would like to see the old lists, they are listed at the bottom

It Has been more than a year since we updated the now famous Free SIP Account Provider List. As far as the list goes, nothing much has changed. The same providers continues to provide users with free SIP services. Over the years, Many have come and gone but IPTEL, SIP2SIP, ANTISIP, PBXes and GetOnSIP, the players on our list has continued to provide Free SIP accounts to clients all over the world. This time we are adding another provider, EKIGA, which was introduced to us by an anonymous reader of our blog.

Previously and even now, IPTEL, the place where the original SER SIP server (The SER was forked out and OpenSIPS and Kamalio was born) still remains our number one choice. It is also because our partner RavenII first dipped his hands in to SIP part of the VoIP IP Telephony with a SER server. Yes IPTEL still continue to provide thousands, if not millions of Free SIP accounts to the world.

The next in the list of Free SIP Account Providers is SIP2SIP which is a part of SIPThor.net which in turn is powered by AG Projects. AG Projects and and i-p-tel GMBH continue to provide free and paid services to the masses.

ANTISIP continue to provide very non anti SIP services. The setting up of the accounts are simple and you on your way to SIP universe, once signed up.

PBXes provides other services and support for telephony world. In addition to SIP, they also support codecs like G711, G726, iLBC, Speex, GSM, H263 Video, G722 HD Voice, G729 Passthru.  Except for the last two, all others are also a part of Free Account. So if you are testing multiple Codecs, this is the place to go. They also have reasonable paid services and their operations mimic traditional PBX.

GetOnSIP is providing a fantastic service. Their service is purely internet based telephony communications for the free accounts.SIP to SIP calls and XMPP messaging are provided with the account. Another good news about GetOnSIP is that they have SIP clients for PCs, iPhone and Android devices. So if you are looking for all in one service, you might want to go here.

Next is our new comer, EKIGA. Although we knew about the service, we did not get a chance to test it so we were unable to list this provider in our earlier lists. But is is good that we tested. Yes the also provide you with a soft phone but under the hood they have a bit more. How about searchable address book  Echo test number, Call back test number, public conference room, peering and the ability to create your own public or private conference room. Of all these, peering is important, because it allows users from one service to call users on another service, using SIPBrokers white page extensions. This is a very attractive option.

So here are the links;

1. IPTEL.org, Creator of SER.

2. SIP2SIP A project by AG Projects.

3. ANTISIP provides very SIP free accounts.

4. PBXes continue to be a better virtual PBX.

5. GetOnSIP's free SIP account comes with a variety of Softphones, desktop and mobile. It is the first iPhone based SIP client I(DiorDNA) tried.

6. EKIGA, a great Free SIP Account Provider with very usefull additional services to go with.

So friends, enjoy the fruits of five great people / companies labour. If you really like these services, please find a way to give back. Many of these providers have paid services, sign up for one of them. You will be doing a lot of people a favor as it will help these companies to stay afloat.

Old posts on SIP providers.

Oh! Instagram, Here Comes Flickr App From Yahoo!

Instagram vs Yahoo Flickr App http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

If you are one of those who like to share, photos, a lot of photos, of your breakfast coffee to dinner desert, you got another friend, I meant another app, which some say better than instagram, that you are using now.
Flickr as a web service is fantastic and everyone of us have at least a single photo on Flickr, sharing with someone or the whole world.
Yahoo is wrapping up all that goodness in a mobile app, Flickr for iPhone and doing a very good job of it. The app has been around but the new update brings bunch of good stuff like filters and effects that allows one to make their photos artsy or appear nothing like the original.
App also allows you to share these photos with your Facebook, Twitter and Tumblr accounts, opening up another avenue for you photos to search for 15 second fame.
But unlike the Instagram, this app is loaded with a very good set of tools, the kind that professional photographers would love. Perhaps they will be able to share what the photos looks like which they took with the professional cameras. Sort of a preview of great works yet to be uploaded in their multi megabit goodness'
Here is how Yahoo explains it on the Apple App Store page;

  • - Capture and create stunning photos: Take photos with the app’s easy-to-use camera and make them your own with all new filters, editing features, and geo-tagging.
  • - Share your photos with anyone, anywhere: Instantly share with your Flickr groups and Facebook, Twitter, Tumblr or email contacts. You pick.
  • - Discover the world through photos: The most interesting images in the world live on Flickr. Rediscover the world and be inspired by the Flickr community of photo hobbyists.
  • - Experience high-quality, high-resolution photos: Flickr maintains the original quality of your photos so they look as crisp and stunning as the moment you snapped the photo.  Your photos always look better on Flickr!

Features:
✓ Custom filters enhance your photos plus photo correction, retouching and many other tools
✓ Access your Flickr photos on any device – phone, tablet, computer and Apple TV!
✓ Connect with others around shared interests. Whether it’s food, travel, or anything else – Flickr has more than 1.6M groups, so there’s bound to be a Group that interests you!
✓ New justified layout photo display makes your personal photostream look amazing
✓ See recent photo activities from your friends and family. Make comments or mark them as favorites.
✓ Flexible, personal privacy options to make your photos as public or private as you want

Skype Says "We do not provide voice services for Facebook Messenger free calls"

Skype http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

Since Skype is powering Facebook's video chat and video conferencing, on the desktop apps, it was natural to assume that Skype is providing the Click to Call or tap to call services for mobile phones, the new Voice over WiFi from Facebook.

But if you assumed so, just like I did, we are wrong. In an statement to Slashgear, Skype has confirmed that it is not providing the backbone services for Facebook, tap to call over WiFi.

Skype - Facebook integration on desktops have gone far but the mobile front has not seen much progress. On the desktop apps, Facebook users could click on a Facebook user name instead hunting for his / her Skype handle to initiate a video call.
I guess it is more important for Microsoft - Skype to push their own mobile Skype apps, just like the recently released Skype for Windows Phone.

Skype on Windows 8 Phone
Well we have to find out who is providing the backbone voice services for Facebook!

How To Make Free Voice Calls With Facebook Messenger App

Free Voice Calls With Facebook http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

"i" top right hand corner
If you remember the facebook phone saga, like the facebook phone, you can turn the pages again. Facebook phone is back but not in the way we discussed or imagined. Now it looks exactly like the phone in your hand, be it an iPhone, Android phone, or any other smartphone supported by Facebook Messenger and as long as you have the Facebook Messenger app loaded. You also need to share your mobile number in order to participate in Facebook free calls.
If you have the latest Facebook’s Messenger app and provided that you are in U.S.A, you can place  voice calls over WiFi.
So how do I make a free call with the Facebook messenger? Pretty simple, you need to hit the “i” info icon in any of the messenger pages like a conversation or contact information page. In the panel there is a “Free Call” button that you can use to make a call. But your friend must have shared his / her mobile number with Facebook and should be available for a call.

Dutch Court Rules Samsung Galaxy Tablets Don't infringe Apple Design Patents.

Samsung Galaxy Tablets Don't infringe Apple Design Patents. http://snapvoip.blogspot.com/

Another court has ruled that Samsung Galaxy Tablets do not infringe on Apple's design patents. This time it is a Dutch court, A district court in the Hague. The patent in this case is, yes the outrageous rounded corners, a design patent which Apple claims Samsung’s Galaxy Tab 10.1, Galaxy Tab 8.9 and Galaxy Tab 7.7 tablets infringes.
Apple is waging a patent war against Samsung at least in ten countries and this is the second country that told Apple that Samsung does not infringe on it's design patents, rounded corners. Earlier a UK court also ruled the same.
Following is the news posted on Rechtspraak website

Galaxy tablets do not infringe on Apple's design right The Hague  , 01.16.2013 Today the Hague district court judgment in a case of Samsung against Apple. At issue in this case is whether the design of some of Samsung Galaxy tablets infringe a design right from Apple. The court believes that there is no question of an infringement. The court refers to British law which the court already had found the same two instances on the same infringement question.
The actual statement is here. Samsung is also happy to have the ruling;
We welcome the court’s decision, which reaffirmed decisions made by courts in other countries that our Galaxy Tab products do not infringe Apple’s registered design right. We continue to believe that Apple was not the first to design a tablet with a rectangular shape and rounded corners and that the origins of Apple’s registered design features can be found in numerous examples of prior art. Should Apple continue to make excessive legal claims based on such generic designs, innovation in the industry could be harmed and consumer choice unduly limited
