NEC UNIVERGE® Platform for IP Telephony And Unified Communications Deployed At New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union (NMEFCU)

IRVING, TX, April 23, 2007 — NEC Unified Solutions, Inc., a global leader in enterprise business communications, today announced that the New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union (NMEFCU) in Albuquerque, NM, a 25-year NEC customer, has begun unifying its business processes for enhanced customer service and internal communications using NEC’s IP-based UNIVERGE® infrastructure and productivity-enhancing unified communications (UC) applications.

“Staying with NEC long-term has been the wisest move. At every turn, they’ve helped us respond to challenges, and we have benefited from NEC’s migration path and from IP telephony’s value proposition,” said Kevin Murphy, vice president of information technology for NMEFCU. “By migrating our communications infrastructure to IP, we improve the user experience for our employees with productivity tools such as unified messaging, plus we simplify the management of our systems and save costs by eliminating a T1 line at nearly every branch location.”

Serving more than 100,000 members statewide, the credit union had been using NEC’s UNIVERGE NEAX® 2400 digital PBX system since the 1980s. Over time, the reliable system served NMEFCU’s Albuquerque headquarters and 12 branch locations well. But by the early 2000s, the credit union had explored options to modernize its communications and was more than ready to execute its first IP telephony rollouts.

Today, the credit union’s IP communications solution consists of the UNIVERGE NEAX 2400 IPX with FUSION Call Control Signaling, which allows the system to network between offices. The system includes NEC Dterm IP phones and NEAXMail® AD-120, a Microsoft® Windows®-based unified messaging for mid-to-large enterprises. Unified messaging allows employees to retrieve voice, e-mail and fax messages in a single inbox.

The credit union also added solutions developed by trusted third-party vendors participating in the UNIVERGE Solutions Partner Program. These include IP voice recording from Wygant (now TeleDirect International) and an Interactive Voice Response system from Technology For Business (TFB).

“With our UNIVERGE360 communications model, we’re helping customers improve their own business processes with the next generation of NEC communications infrastructure and applications. At the same time, NEC has a history of providing solutions that give customers a clear migration path and ease of maintenance,” said Don Fiorentino, vice president of western division sales for NEC Unified Solutions. “Leveraging NEC’s expertise, New Mexico Educators Federal Credit Union is able to enhance communications with a blend of NEC’s latest UNIVERGE technologies and the same reliable NEC switching infrastructure that served the institution well for 20 years.”
