Bloggers take on Verizon Wireless’ impending disclosure of subscriber call information (CPNI)

After opposing Open Wireless Spectrum and taking FCC to court, Now Verizon wants to open up all your call information to third parties. It does not seem like only Verizon customers are affected. Callers from other networks will be let loose if Verizon's customers do not act on a leaflet that comes with monthly bill. Since this is a change to contract, they never told you about CPNI disclosure, (INAL, check with your lawyer) you might be able to cease any contracts that customers has with Verizon and go to another provider.
Network Observations has sent an email to FCC Commissioners and also provide a template for you to use to send your own email to FCC;
"Email Subject: Verizon Wireless CPNI Disclosure

Dear Chairman Martin, and esteemed FCC Commissioners,

I am writing to express my strong concern that Verizon Wireless is able to subvert the will of the people and established Federal law by simply including a leaflet in my monthly bill advising me that if I do not Opt-Out of CPNI disclosure within 30-days receipt of the notice, I will be Opted-In automatically and with no further notice. Verizon will no doubt snare hundreds of thousands of subscribers who are simply too busy, or fail to recognize the importance of the CPNI announcement."

Fellow Blogger Ken Camp has also taken up the task.

Thank you for sounding the alarm concerning the situation with Verizon. I think too many times business can put their own profit motives ahead of the customer's welfare. Most of the time it isn't important, but in a situation like this unless customers present a unified voice the phone providers won't do anything. The response we've seen on the blogs has been great. People are standing up and defending their rights to privacy. I think it's also important for other mobile providers as they'll realize that some things like privacy are important for their customers.

what about those of us who only receive electronic bills and have stopped paper bills? There has been NO communication to us at all.
